Barcelona Make Neymar Their 'Number One' Target (Again) This Summer

Barcelona have set their sights on a summer move for unknown Brazilian forward Neymar Jnr, who has been plying his trade over in Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain.

The player has been with the French outfit ever since leaving another Spanish side back in 2017 for a cut-price deal - and La Blaugrana would like to see his unquestionable talents return to Spanish shores.

If only the above were true.

If only Barcelona were making their first move for Neymar. If only this wasn't a rinse and repeat occurrence. If only people actually cared anymore.

So, without further ado, yes, Barça have made their former forward Neymar - who they sold for a world-record fee of £198m - their 'number one' target (again) this summer. What a surprise.

It's absolutely no secret whatsoever that the club are pining after 28-year-old Neymar. They've almost regretted letting him go as much as the player regrets leaving, and the two have been on a reunion course for what feels like an excruciatingly long period of time.

A drawn-out saga last summer never came to fruition, much to everyone's dismay (especially Lionel Messi's), but this time around, Barcelona are significantly more optimistic of luring their former star back to Camp Nou.

Sport list the number of factors that the club are working on this time. The €170m (£148m) fee is thought to be the least of their worries, and that outlay will determine which other signings they can make during the summer. Their plan is to execute the deal swiftly (good one!) so that other targets can be focused on without any hiccups.

With PSG trailing Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League knockout tie, if the French side are eliminated from the competition then Barça will begin their work immediately. Although, that said, he's probably had about 198 WhatsApp messages from the club already.

Neymar is deemed as Barça's saving grace. They see him as adding all the necessary qualities they desperately crave - despite how foolish the transfer looks from the outside. Weekly wages, the actual fee, La Blaugrana's delicate situation and the overall financial burden have all been factored in. They still want him.

PSG are less keen, though. President Nasser Al Khelaifi wants to keep Neymar (duh), and his superstar teammate Kylian Mbappe (duh) - with both tied down until the summer of 2022. However, if neither pen new deals then his hand may be forced in the transfer market.

Despite Neymar's own obvious desire to return to Barcelona, one slight concern surrounds the Brazilian's legal case against his former employers. He's seeking £5.6m in unpaid contingency fees, taking his total claims against the Catalan side to £33m. Hardly 'take my back, I love you', but y'know, as they say, 'treat em mean, keep em keen'.

Strap yourselves in guys, this may take a while.
