Juventus vs Inter Among 5 Serie A Games Postponed at Last Minute Due to Coronavirus Outbreak
By Adam Aladay
The crunch clash between Juventus and Inter this weekend has been postponed due to growing fears over the coronavirus, while four other Serie A games have also been called off.
The virus is continuing to spread across Italy, with the number of cases in the country continuing to increase. Italy has already been the worst affected European country and precautionary measures are being taken to prevent further outbreaks.
Inter's recent clash with Sampdoria was among three Serie A matches to have been postponed due to health and safety concerns. Further measures were set to be taken for the upcoming round of fixtures, with Italy's Minister of Sports Vincenzo Spadafora confirming that six league games on matchday 26 played in the areas affected by the coronavirus will go ahead, but behind closed doors.
However, Juventus' top of the table clash with Inter will not be going ahead; instead being postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. To that end, Milan's game against Genoa has also been cancelled (via BBC Sport and others)
Elsewhere, the following three fixtures will also not go ahead: Parma vs SPAL, Udinese vs Fiorentina and Sassuolo vs Brescia.
These matches were all scheduled to be played without a crowd, but a decision has now been made to take further precautionary measures. However, Romano has further revealed that these five matches have all been rescheduled and will now be played on 13th May.
Juventus are currently sat at the top of the table, one point clear of Lazio, and a further five points ahead of title-challengers Inter. However, Antonio Conte's men do have a game in hand.
Both sides will have been desperate to pick up all three points, but with the coronavirus continuing to spread, this colossal clash will now be played in May.
