Barcelona midfielders Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic have both criticised the club's squad planning after they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Dries Mertens opened the scoring with a stunning finish, but the Catalan giants grew into the contest in the second half and found an equaliser through Antoine Griezmann.

While they were able to grab an away goal, they will be without Arturo Vidal and Busquets for the second leg as they are now ruled out through suspension. Busquets picked up a yellow card, while his fellow midfielder saw red late on. Elsewhere, Gerard Pique also limped off late on.

Busquets has now taken a swipe at the club's squad planning, revealing that this is 'how it was planned.' The Spaniard told reporters after the game, as quoted by ESPN"[Nelson] Semedo and I were one booking away from a ban so we were always running that risk [of suspension].

"We hope Pique's injury is nothing serious but we will take on the second leg with what we have. We don't have a deep squad because, unfortunately, that's how it was planned."

Rakitic has also been critical of La Blaugrana's decision to not put together a big enough squad, adding: "We have a short squad but those that are in charge knew that. The solution is what it is. Those that are available will have work really hard because we have an important match in the second leg."

ESPN report that Pique will undergo tests on an ankle injury on Thursday and they hope they will have him available for their trip to take on rivals Real Madrid on the weekend.

However, Barcelona boss Quique Setien has insisted that they can win La Liga and the Champions League, and while he recognised that they have lost a number of key players, he revealed that Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto are expected to return for the second leg against Napoli.

"We can win La Liga and the Champions League. It's true we've lost Busquets and Vidal for the return game but we will recover Alba and Roberto.

"I'm one of those people that looks at things optimistically. We don't have many players, but there's no point complaining about it."
