Real Madrid are interested in making a move for Napoli midfielder Fabián Ruiz, and sent scouts to watch him during Gli Azzurri's recent win over Brescia.
The 23-year-old moved to Naples from Real Betis in the summer of 2018 for a fee of £27m, and has impressed under both Carlo Ancelotti and Gennaro Gattuso.
His impressive performances in Serie A immediately led to talk of a move to Barcelona, but Ruiz's form has seemingly now attracted bitter rivals Real Madrid - with Mundo Deportivo noting that he's high up on Los Blancos' list of transfer targets.
Real's scouting team were on hand to watch Ruiz against Brescia, and will have been impressed with they saw after he curled home a superb effort from outside of the penalty area, securing all three points for Napoli in the process.
Ruiz has impressed throughout his time in Italy, penning a five-year deal with Napoli upon his arrival in 2018. Though he has still has plenty of time to run on that deal, new contracts talks have been the offing - but not without issue.
Reports claim that Ruiz is insistent on a release fee of around €80m to €90m being inserted into his contract, while Napoli have put forward €150m. That difference in valuation has held up talks between the two parties, and an agreement is not thought to be close.
MD's report claims that Real are willing to spend €80m but have rejected the nine digit asking price that Napoli have proposed.
Their interest in Ruiz is thought to have begun during his time in La Liga with Real Betis, but his performances for Spain's Under-21s have also caught the eye. During last year's European Championship, he was voted as the tournament's best player and helped guide La Roja to victory in the final against Germany.
Juventus are also thought to be admirers, piling the pressure on Napoli to perform in the Champions League - or risk losing their star player.
