Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembélé has arrived in Finland for surgery on his torn hamstring, which is expected to sideline him for the remainder of the season.

The 22-year-old has struggled badly with muscle injuries since moving to Camp Nou, managing just nine appearances this season before initially injuring his hamstring back in November – before tearing the muscle in training on his way back to fitness.

As noted by MarcaDembélé is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday, when a decision will be made about his involvement for the rest of the season.

Barcelona are confident that the injury will rule him out for the remainder of the campaign, which is why they appealed to the RFEF for special permission to sign an emergency forward outside of the transfer window.

They have since been informed that they will be granted that permission, but only once the RFEF see the results of the surgery.

Ousmane Dembele

Once it is confirmed by surgeons and other professionals that Dembélé will not be able to return in the next five months, the RFEF are happy to give Barcelona the opportunity to recruit a new striker.

The club are also awaiting a similar ruling for their 'B' team, as winger Hiroki Abe is also set to undergo the same surgery on Tuesday, and Barcelona want to be able to replace him too.

As of yet, it is unclear just how much freedom Barcelona will be given to find a replacement. It has been suggested that they could be restricted to signing a free agent, or they may be allowed to sign a player from another La Liga side instead.

Lucas Perez

La Blaugrana appear to be preparing for the latter. They are believed to be considering a number of forwards from Spain, including Alavés' Lucas Pérez, Girona's Cristhian Stuani and Getafé's Ángel Rodríguez – and have also made enquiries into the availabilities of Real Betis forward Loren Morón and Real Sociedad's Willian José.
