Each new jersey features adidas’ iconic three stripes over the right shoulder in a throwback look to the 1990s when MLS was launched. But the details of every kit have been custom designed so that each club has a jersey that is uniquely theirs.
Here’s a ranking of the 10 best looking new kits this season…
10. Inter Miami
There is something distinctly simple and classy but not boring about Inter Miami’s debut kit. This jersey uses black as its primary colour and the sharp pink contrast really sets it off. David Beckham himself would certainly have looked the part wearing it.
9. New York Red Bulls
Trading last season's red for black and creating a monotone Red Bull logo, New York Red Bulls look a whole lot fiercer in their new away colours. Can this finally be the year they turn regular season success into post-season glory after so many near misses?
8. Real Salt Lake
Some might consider the new RSL home kit to be rather garish, yet the patterning ensures this jersey has plenty of intrigue. The design pays tribute to the unique landscape of Salt Lake City, while the beehive logo represents the wider state of Utah.
7. Colorado Rapids
This Rapids home shirt works perfectly, with the club’s primary colours the perfect complements and the patterned design giving it just enough without overreaching. It has now been a decade since Colorado’s only MLS Cup triumph, and four years since they made the playoffs.
6. Toronto FC
Toronto’s new away shirt has a retro look more than most, balancing the lighter grey patterning with the much more vibrant red trim and detailing. It even gives a nod to local communities beyond downtown and the support the club draws from the wider local area.
5. LA FC
Off the back of an history 2019 season, LA FC have a 2020 kit that is low key flashy, while remaining eminently subtle and classy. The gold detailing works against the black jersey, with club tagline ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ featured inside the neck tape.
4. LA Galaxy
Searching for a record sixth MLS Cup to extend their own league record, LA Galaxy’s iconic diagonal sash has been reimagined for 2020 and is now a subtle silver than the usual dark blue. The hand painted look gives the design a whole lot more character.
3. New York City
The second kit New York City will be wearing this season just screams 90s retro, but it also ties into the city’s culture and history. It has been dubbed the ‘Gotham’ kit and the patterning is inspired by the Brooklyn Bridge, while there is also a nod to the harbour.
2. Seattle Sounders
The 2019 champions don’t do bad kits and 2020 is no exception. The unmistakable colours return as ever, with this jersey said to embody the club’s investment in sustainability. There is a nod to Seattle’s location with the Cascadia bioregion in the form of a flag at the back neck.
1. Orlando City
Orlando’s alternate jersey for 2020 has been dubbed the ‘Heart and Sol’ kit and is just extraordinarily pleasant to look at it. A purple sun graphic radiates from the club’s badge, while English and Spanish messages inside the neck are a nod to Florida’s bilingual makeup.
