Bayern Munich attempted to sign Ajax full-back Sergiño Dest in the January transfer window, but the German champions saw their bid rejected.

Dest came through the Dutch champions’ academy and spent the 2018/2019 season with the club’s reserve side, Jong Ajax. He made his first league appearance for the senior side this season, and having made just 14 appearances in the Eredivisie, the youngster has shown enough promise to alert the attentions of Bayern.

As reported by De Telegraaf, Bayern saw a bid of €20m rejected for the 19-year-old, with Ajax said to be looking for closer to €30m before they are willing to let the highly-rated full-back leave.

Despite not turning 20 until later this year, Dest has also seen his performances earn international recognition, making his USA debut in a 3-0 defeat to Mexico in September 2019.

The German giants aren’t short of options in the right-back position as it is. Should a move materialise the youngster faces tough competition from France international Benjamin Pavard, with Joshua Kimmich and David Alaba also able to fill in at right-back.

Reports suggest that Ajax could be open to a summer transfer if their valuation is met, but it remains to be seen whether the Bundesliga champions will re-open negotiations.

The player’s agent, Joes Blakborn, has said he does not wish to comment on the speculation at this time.

The USA international played the full 90 minutes on Sunday as Ajax defeated PSV Eindhoven 1-0 at the Amsterdam Arena, restoring their three point lead at the summit of the Dutch top-flight.
