Edinson Cavani's mother has insisted she and her family 'don't understand' reports that the Paris Saint-Germain star's brother and agent scuppered his move to Atletico Madrid, despite Atleti president
Speaking at the Madrid derby the day after the transfer window closed, Cerezo said of his club's failed attempt to bring Cavani to the Wanda Metropolitano: "It's a disgrace. The situation with some players' representatives and their families. We won't be cowed by those trying to rob us."
Cavani has just six months left on his contract in the French capital, and Diego Simeone was hoping to steal him away from PSG for a cut-price fee in a desperate attempt to fix his horribly misfiring forward line.
Reports had claimed that a deal was close to going through before last week's January deadline, but Cavani's brother and agent Walter's demands for commission ended up killing the move.
Speaking to AS, Cavani's mother Berta Gomez said:
"My son did everything he could to go to Atlético. He put pressure on by not playing a PSG and told his brother that he was willing to drop his wages to sign with Atlético. He wanted to play with Cholo and he showed that at every turn."
