Pep Guardiola Issues Leroy Sane Contract Update as He Hints at Manchester City Stay

Pep Guardiola has said that Leroy Sane is yet to reject a contract offer on the table to him from Manchester City, suggesting the player could stay at the club beyond the summer despite continued interest from Bayern Munich.

Sane hasn't played since the Community Shield against Liverpool, in which he went off early on with an injury later revealed to be an ACL rupture.

He hasn't played since as he continues his recovery, but despite his lack of first-team action he has never been far from the headlines. The German is into the final 18 months of his contract, and with Bayern still hovering after shelving plans to sign him in the summer, 90min reported exclusively that he is keen to get a move over the line sooner rather than later - with City expecting it to happen.

Guardiola, however, wasn't playing into the talk over his future, saying that as far as he knows, Sane is still considering a contract offer from City

“I don’t have any new news, I’m sorry," he said, as per Goal. "I would like to tell you but...

“You have to ask Txiki [Begiristain, City director of football]. The last info I had was that we made him an offer a long time ago and all the time he didn’t reject it, so after that I don’t have any news.”

What he would discuss, however, is the 24-year-old's recovery, saying he is nearing a return, but 'needs time' before he can be thrown back in at the deep end.

“Sane started to train with us, good news, and he moves surprisingly really well, it was nice to see him back," he went on.

“I don’t know [when he will be back]. He needs a little bit more time I think. But we will see.

“Now it’s a bit like Ayme [Laporte], he started training before the first game against Sheffield [United], two or three weeks ago, so he needs time. We will see.”
