Barcelona have confirmed Carles Perez's departure from the club, on loan to Roma with an obligation to buy.

Negotiations had appeared to stagnate in recent days due to the Serie A club's reluctance to include a buy-back clause, with sporting director Gianluca Petrachi insisting "Roma are nobody’s feeder club".

But a deal has now been reached, with Barça confirming on their official website that Perez is heading for Rome on a temporary basis, though the deal will be made permanent on July 1.

The statement read: "FC Barcelona and AS Roma have reached an agreement for the loan of the player Carles Pérez until 30 June for a fee of €1m.

"The Italian club will pay the player’s wages and are obliged to pay €11m for the player plus €3.5m in add-ons once the loan period is over. Furthermore, FC Barcelona retains the right of first refusal on any future sale of the player.

"FC Barcelona would like to publicly thank Carles Pérez for his commitment and professionalism and would also like to wish him all the best for the future."

The deal is unlikely to have a massive effect on the remainder of Barça's season, with the 21-year-old making just ten appearances in La Liga. He did, however, feature in their dead rubber Champions League clash against Inter, scoring in a 2-1 victory for the Catalan side.

He leaves with Barcelona occupying second place in La Liga, while his new club remain one of the clubs in the hunt for Champions League qualification, currently sitting fourth in Serie A following their 1-1 draw with Lazio.

Perez made his Barcelona debut back in May last year during a 2-2 draw at Eibar before scoring his first goal for the current La Liga champions in August during a 5-2 rout of Real Betis. He had previously featured prominent for Barcelona B, scoring frequently during the 2018/19 season.

His arrival will give more options in midfield to Roma boss Paulo Fonseca, who recently lost Nicolo Zaniolo for the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Barcelona are still hoping to finalise a deal for a striker following the injury to Luis Suarez, with Valencia's Rodrigo previously tipped to make a temporary move to Camp Nou.
