6 Transfers That Could Actually Go Through Before the January Window Shuts
It's coming close to that time of year where fans gather outside their grounds to torment Sky Sports reporters with expletive-ridden rants and phallic shaped objects. Yes, it's nearly transfer deadline day.
You'll be hearing a lot of rumours over the next few days, and come the evening of January 31st a sinister voice will haunt you with phrases like "personal terms" and "agents fees" as you try to get to sleep.
But as this annual winter tradition approaches, you have to begin to wonder who you can trust. What do you believe and what don't you believe?
Well don't worry, as we here at 90min have you got you covered with our list of six transfers that will actually go through before the window slams shut. Probably...
Krzysztof Piatek
Although Spurs have already announced the signing of Dutch winger Steven Bergwijn from PSV today, it doesn't change the fact that they still need a striker after the injury to Harry Kane.
They need an immediate impact from a forward who will hit the ground running and fire them back into the Champions League. So who better than Krzysztof Piatek? A man who has scored just once in Serie A since October for AC Milan...
With time running out it seems as though Jose Mourinho has decided that the Polish centre forward could be his man. Piatek will join Fernando Llorente, Vincent Janssen and Clinton N'Jie in the annals of history of back-up strikers to Harry Kane. Hopefully he can live up to it.
Olivier Giroud
The best looking man in football has found game time hard to come by at Chelsea this season due to the form of Tammy Abraham, so he is looking elsewhere for more first team action ahead of the Euros this summer.
Inter have been touted as potential suitors for the Frenchman, as Antonio Conte seems intent on turning the San Siro into a retirement home for Premier League talent.
Spurs have also emerged as contenders for Giroud's signature, but given the six and a half years he spent at north London rivals Arsenal that seems unlikely...well, at least Gunners' fans hope it is anyways.
Sander Berge
Sheffield United's long-term admiration for Genk's Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge is like something out of a Richard Curtis movie, and it seems as though this love story might involve a last minute dash to the airport as well.
Some of the players to have come through Genk in recent years include the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Kevin De Bruyne and of course Liverpool legend Christian Benteke.
Chris Wilder will be hoping that the 21-year-old is more like the first two than the latter when he arrives at Bramall Lane.
Edinson Cavani
After the arrival of Mauro Icardi in the summer, Edinson Cavani has found it hard to get into the PSG side ahead of Thomas Tuchel's Fantastic Four (Icardi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria).
This leaves the Uruguayan as something of Silver Surfer looking for another club to go to and dominate.
Atletico Madrid, therefore, seem the perfect destination. Los Rojiblancos have struggled with goals all season - scoring just 22 in 21 games - and need the kind of hardworking striker that will fit into Diego Simeone's playing style. The two will be hoping that they can complete with one another.
Emre Can
Can Emre Can stay at Juventus and get regular football ahead of the Euros this summer? No, he Emre Can't (we had to, sorry).
That leaves the former Liverpool man searching for a new club, and it appears as though Borussia Dortmund are going to sign the versatile midfielder despite interest from Everton, PSG Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
The German is reportedly willing to take a pay-cut to return back to his home country where he'll be hoping to help Die Schwarzgelben to their first Bundesliga title since 2012.
Daniel Podence
Nuno Espirito Santo's attempt to turn Wolves into the Portuguese national team, minus Cristiano Ronaldo, looks set to continue once Daniel Podence arrives at the club.
The diminutive number 10 scored against Tottenham for Olympiacos in the Champions League this season, and would bring a bit of extra creativity to an already talented Wolves midfield.
It's yet another quality signing for the Midlands club as they launch an unlikely assault on the Premier League top four.
