Tottenham Join Host of Top Clubs Chasing Last-Minute Deal for Juventus' Emre Can
Tottenham Hotspur have launched a late bid to sign Juventus midfielder Emre Can before Friday's transfer deadline, though they are one of many contenders for his services.
The German has made only three starts for the Old Lady since Maurizio Sarri's appointment last summer, having made 37 appearances during his debut season. That has led to months of speculation regarding Can's future in Turin, with English rivals Manchester United, Arsenal and Everton all interested.
Bild claim the Italians will let him leave the club should they receive a suitable offer. The Bianconeri value the 26-year-old at around €25m, though Borussia Dortmund have submitted a bid of €20m in recent days.
It's understood Can has agreed to joining Lucien Favre's side, but BVB could miss out after reaching a stalemate in their negotiations with Juve, who may switch their attentions and take advantage of interest from other clubs.
Paris Saint-Germain are known admirers of Can, with the French club proposing a swap deal involving Leandro Paredes. However, Juventus would prefer to simply sell the Germany international.
That's an option that would suit United and both north London teams, with the trio all receiving a boost in their pursuit of the Bianconeri outcast following comments from the club's director of football Fabio Paratici.
Asked about the man in question, Paratici said (as quoted by Forbes): "Emre Can is an important player. We’ll be happy if he remains, but if we find a solution that suits everyone concerned, then he can take that step.
"He has a lot of suitors all over Europe, seeing as he is one of the best midfielders on the continent, so that is only natural."
Though Paratici's words will encourage the four Premier League teams who are tacking Can, Dortmund can offer him the chance to return to his home country, and it seems they have a verbal agreement in place.
It shouldn't be long before BVB accept Juve's demands and wrap up their second signing of the month.
