Manchester City came out on top in the headline tie in the Women's FA Cup fourth round on Saturday, as Ellen White's potency proved decisive in a 3-2 win over Manchester United.

White grabbed a brace to give City a 2-0 lead, but substitute Lauren James inspired a United fightback with a fine strike. Jill Scott restored City's two goal advantage, before Lauren Hemp headed into her own net in injury time.

Fourth tier Ipswich Town produced the biggest shock of the round, as they beat Huddersfield Town of the division above 4-1 thanks to a first half hat-trick from 16-year-old Maddie Biggs and a Natasha Thomas strike.

Lucy Sowerby pulled one back for the hosts, who piled on the pressure in the second half. But Ipswich held on to reach the fifth round for the first time in the club's history, becoming the first team from the fourth tier to make the FA Cup last 16 in the history of the women's competition.

Fellow fourth tier side Billericay Town came closest to pulling off the round's only other giant killing, after they took Championship side Lewes all the way to penalties following a 1-1 draw.

Lewes had opened the scoring through Paula Howells, but the second tier side were pegged back by a Theresa Addison goal. Lewes advanced 5-4 in the shootout.

WSL side Brighton edged through at Championship leaders Aston Villa. A Shania Hayles brace could not prevent the hosts from slipping to a narrow 3-2 defeat, with Amanda Nilden, Fern Whelan and Ini-Abasi Umotong on the score sheet for the Seagulls.

The WSL's bottom club Bristol City also narrowly avoided an upset, beating Championship side Durham 1-0 thanks to an extra time goal from 17-year-old Katie Robinson.

Record 14-time FA Cup champions Arsenal progressed with a 2-0 win over last year's beaten finalists West Ham, Katie McCabe and Lisa Walti with the goals for the Gunners.

Chelsea beat Championship strugglers Charlton 4-0, with Drew Spence and Emily Murphy both grabbing a brace, while Everton edged past second tier side London Bees thanks to an Inessa Kaagman wonder goal.

There were big wins for Reading and Liverpool over Championship opposition. Fara Williams scored twice as the Royal beat London City Lionesses 5-0, while Rinsola Babajide hit four as the Reds beat Blackburn 8-1.

Tottenham also recorded an emphatic victory, beating fourth tier outfit Barnsley 5-0, Rianna Dean grabbing two goals, while Birmingham avoided a potential banana skin, with a 3-0 win at promotion chasing Sheffield United.

Championship sides Coventry and Leicester progressed with wins over third tier opposition. The Sky Blues comfortably beat Southampton 4-1 at St Mary's - Saints Women's first appearance at the stadium - while the Foxes won 3-1 at Burnley.

Northern Premier Division leaders Sunderland are also in that hat for the fifth round, as the 2009 finalists beat Watford 2-0.

Crystal Palace and eight-time FA Cup winners Southampton Women's FC are both in Monday's draw, after their game was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch after 78 minutes, with Championship side Palace leading 3-0.

The fifth round draw takes place at 6:40pm on Monday 27 January.
