30 of the Best Footballers & the Cars They Drive
By 90min
Footballers and cars go hand in hand. With more money than sense, and little to actually spend it on, the modern football player can build an arsenal of exotic and ferocious automobiles.
More than anything else, it's a statement piece. A sign of their status within the beautiful game. After all, who would want to be driving an old banger when their teammates are arriving for training in Lamborghinis?
As a result, there are quite a number of breathtaking and extravagant cars in this list and, without further ado, here they are.
Jan Vertonghen (Ford Mustang GT)
The Tottenham centre back has a car to reflect his robust and physical defensive style. The Mustang is hardly the fastest or most nimble of vehicles...and you can connect the dots if you really want to.
Mauro Icardi (Rolls-Royce Ghost)
The new Paris Saint-Germain star has an infamously large car collection, including a Lamborghini Huracan and a gold Hummer H2, but the most sophisticated of the lot is the Ghost, a new model dedicated to its predecessor which was first produced in 1906.
David de Gea (Aston Martin Vantage)
Despite a recent decline in performances, the Spaniard still boasts an impressive car collection, with the highlight being a £160k Aston Martin. The Vantage has the look of a classic sports car, with all the technology and mechanics of a modern day machine.
Son Heung-min (Ferrari LaFerrari)
While Ferrari LaFerrari may sound like a name for a car made up by a five-year-old, this sports car is a very, very rare machine. Tottenham's Son owns just one of 499 in circulation, and you can see why it's so sought after - even if it will put a £1.15m dent in your bank account.
Sadio Mane (Audi RS7)
The tricky and agile Liverpool winger drives around the city in a nimble and dexterous Audi, but has often spoken out about his lack of interest in hoarding material objects. A few months ago, as quoted by AS, Mane said: "Why would I want ten Ferraris? How would that help me or the world?"
Maybe just the one Audi is enough for the Senegal international.
Toni Kroos (Audi SQ7)
A sensible no-nonsense car for a sensible no-nonsense midfielder. The German drives around the Spanish capital in a rather shiny SUV which exhibits the kind of nonchalant and effortless attitude that Kroos himself takes on to the pitch.
Bernardo Silva (Smart ForTwo)
Despite being a beneficiary of Manchester City's vast fortunes, Silva still often chooses to drive around in a...Smart car. Yep, that's right. The minuscule vehicle costs just 11k, meaning the winger could afford to buy ten Smart ForTwo cars with his weekly wage. He probably doesn't do that though.
Gianluigi Buffon (Fiat 500)
About as patriotic as you can get, it's hardly surprising Buffon decides to drive around Turin in a Fiat 500. The shot-stopper is of a certain generation and perhaps his choice of car is his method of shunning the glitz and glam of the modern footballing world.
Luis Suarez (Audi RS 6)
The Uruguayan, like many of his Barca teammates, has more than just the one car. I know, shocking.
But the car he chooses to drive on a day to day basis is the Audi RS 6, a fairly ordinary and subtle saloon. The striker once famously asked his wife to sit in the back of the car so Lionel Messi could sit in the passenger seat. Talk about priorities...
Romelu Lukaku (Mercedes AMG-GTR Coupe)
Lukaku will now be glad he drove far, far away from Manchester United this summer, with the Belgian recapturing his form in Milan. But forgetting England or Italy for a second, it's Germany that inspires his collection of cars. Romelu owns many Mercedes, but the £140k AMG-GTR is by far and away the most beautiful of the bunch.
Roberto Firmino (Lamborghini Urus)
The first thing you think of when you think of a Lamborghini is a sports car. But the Brazilian Liverpool striker has opted for the slightly more sensible SUV model. However, the Urus still costs an eye-watering £250k...at least he can fit all his Tesco shopping in the back.
N'Golo Kante (Mini Cooper S)
We all love N'Golo Kante.
He truly is one of the most humble guys in the game and nothing reflects that more than his choice of car. Following his move to Leicester from France, the midfielder bought himself a second-hand Mini Cooper to get to and from the Foxes' training sessions. Two Premier League titles and a World Cup later, he's still driving that little Mini.
God bless players like N'Golo...
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Ferrari Monza)
From the most humble man in football to the least. Ibra has never been shy of standing out and his 38th self-bought birthday present proves it. A £1.4m Ferrari was recently added to his collection, with the Swede now owning just one of 500 Monzas ever produced.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Lamborghini Aventador)
The Arsenal forward is known for being one of the 'cool' guys of football, if you believe in that sort of thing. His rather peculiar and eye-catching attire and haircuts make it almost inevitable that he has some kind of gargantuan petrol-guzzling sports car – and he doesn't disappoint, with the striking Aventador that costs a little shy of $400k.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Mercedes AMG C63 Coupe)
Despite looking too young to drive, the Liverpool right back has to be one of only a few 21-year-olds driving round in a £66k Mercedes. However, the local lad is now earning a fair old share at Anfield, and probably has little else to spend it on.
Robert Lewandowski (Ferrari F12)
Red seems to be the colour that runs through Lewandowski's life. First Poland, then Bayern Munich and now his rather slender Ferrari. The Pole has been in tremendous goalscoring form this season and he has certainly bagged himself a beauty of a car - even if it likely set him back over £200k.
Karim Benzema (Bugatti Veyron)
The striker has a vast array of sports cars but his finest has to be the Veyron. Hitting speeds of over 265mph and costing an unthinkable £1.5m, Benzema has one of the 450 made. As the picture suggests, he's pretty proud of it.
Paul Pogba (Rolls-Royce Wraith)
Perhaps one of the classiest car producers around, Rolls-Royce unsurprisingly takes centre stage in Pogba's £1.6m car collection. Elegant and understated, we're still not quite convinced this is the right car for the eccentric midfielder.
Gareth Bale (Lamborghini Huracan)
The Welshman hasn't had it easy since moving to Real Madrid back in 2013, but at least he has a lovely Lambo to drive to and from golf sessions in. The Huracan's 610 horsepower engine boasts almost as much pace and power as the former Tottenham winger himself.
Not sure how he'll fit his putter and wedge in though.
Harry Kane (Jaguar F-Pace)
From a former Spurs star to a current one. Kane could rollerblade to the Tottenham training complex and the Lilywhites would still adore him, but instead he chooses a rather stocky Jag. Unfortunately, he may need a chauffeur for the foreseeable future with injury rearing its ugly head for the Jaguar enthusiast once more.
Eden Hazard (Aston Martin Vanquish)
The Real Madrid summer signing may have traded England for Spain, but he took one thing with him. The sexy Aston Martin Vanquish takes pride of place as the most expensive car in his collection, costing a sizeable £200k. Considering his rather large transfer fee though, it shouldn't take him too long to pay it off...
Raheem Sterling (Bentley Continental GT)
Good old Sterling has gone for a nice British car - despite the manufacturing process likely taking place everywhere but the United Kingdom. Long, wide and imposing, perhaps Sterling is exorcising some personal demons with his choice of car.
Antoine Griezmann (Maserati Gran Turismo)
Griezmann's choice of car appears to be the perfect blend of bling and sophistication. The grand tourer produced by Maserati has seemingly tickled the Frenchman's fancy, and if you catch a glance of one of these pulling up in Barcelona then you may just wanna stick around to see who gets out.
Sergio Aguero (Nissan GT-R)
Unlike the majority of footballers who are simply dazzled by the bright headlights and loud revs of expensive cars, Aguero really is a petrol-head. Perhaps the most interesting car in the Argentine's collection is his custom-made GT-R, which was created in connection with Puma.
Having said that, previous history dictates that Aguero may need to be a tad more careful on the road after he crashed his £80k Range Rover in October 2019.
Mohamed Salah (Mercedes GLE Coupe)
The Liverpool star has opted for a slightly more reasonable car, by footballer standards that is, choosing the Mercedes GLE Coupe. At a relatively modest £50k, the Egyptian didn't splash the cash on this one - although he does now own a rather pricey Lamborghini.
Kevin De Bruyne (Mercedes G Class)
Despite being much more suited to the arduous terrain of the snowy Swiss mountains than the roundabouts of Manchester, De Bruyne has opted to grab himself a G Wagon. A slightly hipster option, the Belgian has chosen wisely with a rugged and imposing vehicle.
Sergio Ramos (Customised Fiat 600)
To match his aggression and showmanship on the field, you would envisage Ramos owning some sort of gargantuan pimped out sports car. And while he does own other cars, his customised Fiat 600 shows the Spaniard perhaps has a little more class than we gave him credit for.
Neymar (Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita)
Now for less of a surprise.
As you might imagine, this is not Neymar's only car. However, it fits seamlessly with his lavish and outlandish lifestyle and fashion sense, while also in itself being a thing of beauty. A sleek and streamlined body helps this powerhouse hit up to 254mph, hence why it would set you back $4.8m. More or less a month's wages for Neymar, however.
Cristiano Ronaldo (Bugatti Chiron)
Unsurpisingly, the physical specimen that is CR7 drives one of the fastest and finely tuned sports cars ever produced. The £2m vehicle can hit a staggering 260mph and matches the Juventus star's unstoppable power and speed.
Lionel Messi (Pagani Zonda Roadster)
We thought we'd save the world's best player for last, and boy does he drive one of the world's best cars. The Roadster was first brought to life in 2003 and Messi owns one of only 40 that were ever produced, with the agility and pace of the Zonda very fitting for the Argentine. The approximately £1m beast has to be one of the rarest and most dynamic cars ever made.
