Atletico Madrid are pushing to 'close' a deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani imminently and have made a new offer after the player revealed his desire to leave his current club.
PSG sporting director Leonardo confirmed that the 32-year-old Uruguayan had made clear his desire to leave. However, the French champions would only be open to a January sale for the right price, having already rejected an offer from Atletico.
Premier League clubs Manchester United and Chelsea were also linked with a move for Cavani, with both sides on the hunt for striking reinforcements this month. However, it appears as though Atleti are pushing hardest to complete a transfer, having submitted a new offer.
According to, journalist Nicolo Schira, Atletico want to 'close' the Cavani deal 'immediately' and have upped their offer to €15m plus add-ons.
Schira claims that there is a 'total agreement' on personal terms between Cavani and Atletico president Enrique Cerezo.
In a follow-up report from Spanish daily AS, it is claimed that Atleti's new offer will be considered 'sufficient' by PSG, going as far as to claim that the switch is now 'imminent'.
Changing the French capital for the Spanish one apparently also meets Cavani senior's approval, with the player's father Luis telling El Chiringuito that he 'would like' his son to go to Atletico.
Diego Simeone has made signing a new forward option his priority this transfer window with his side struggling in front of goal in 2019/20, after a summer of rebuilding.
Third in the table and eight points off the top, no side in La Liga's top seven have scored fewer goals than Atleti (22 in 20 games), while Alvaro Morata is the club's top league scorer with just seven.
€125m summer arrival Joao Felix is yet to hit the ground running fully and has just four goals in all competitions.
Cavani's experience of over 350 career goals will be welcomed at the Wanda Metropolitano. However, he has netted just five so far for PSG this season, having been limited to 14 outings in all competitions.
