Inter are ready to reignite their interest in Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić, with manager Antonio Conte understood to be a huge fan of the Croatian.
The Nerazzurri were heavily linked with Modrić last summer and were even rumoured to be close to striking a deal, only for the midfielder to decide that he was not ready to bring his time in Madrid to an end just yet.
Modrić remains under contract at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2021, but rumours of a potential move away have reemerged, and Sport claim that Inter are ready to take advantage of that with a summer bid.
Conte is thought to be insisting that Inter do whatever it takes to sign Modrić in the summer, and there is a belief that they may be able to get a deal over the line.
Modrić will turn 35 in September and will be free to discuss a move overseas in January 2021, so Real would be open to listening to offers for the midfielder in summer. They do not want to let him go now as they don't have a replacement ready, but that is expected to change at the end of the season.
Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek is 'likely' to head to the Bernabéu, while Real are also expected to bring Martin Ødegaard and Óscar Rodríguez back from their respective loan spells with Real Sociedad and Leganés.
They could also bring in Paul Pogba from Manchester United, so they feel as though there may be no need for Modrić at the end of the current campaign.
He is no longer a permanent starter under Zinedine Zidane, who has been impressed by the development of Federico Valverde. Modrić has started just nine La Liga games this season, so a departure certainly seems possible.
Inter will not be the only side interested in Modrić. He is thought to be intrigued by a possible move to D.C. United, but expect plenty of other teams to express an interest if he officially hits the market.
