Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has responded to speculation regarding his future as rumours of interest from Barcelona abound, insisting he is happy in Milan.
The 22-year-old Argentinian, who joined I Nerazzurri two years ago from Racing Club, has enjoyed a strong first half of the season for the Italian giants, netting ten times in the league. In doing so, he has helped Inter to second place in Serie A.
Barcelona have frequently been linked with a move for the striker but Martinez says the supposed interest only proves he is doing the right things in Italy.
Discussing the supposed interest surrounding him, Martinez told TyC Sports as quoted by CalcioMercato: "Today I’m fighting for the Inter shirt. I’m very happy here, people love me.
"If there are these rumours, it means I’m doing things right and I have to go on. It’s the mentality I have when I go to sleep. I’m very calm, very happy and at ease at Inter.”
This is Martinez’s first season as a fully-fledged starter, having played second fiddle for most of the last campaign to Mauro Icardi.
Antonio Conte has decided to promote Martinez to play alongside Romelu Lukaku this season. It's a move which has certainly boosted the side’s attacking prowess, with the two forwards sharing 33 goals between them in all competitions.
Martinez also elaborated on the changes made by former Chelsea boss Conte, adding: “Many things have changed, a new coach has arrived who lives the game in a special way.
"He has given us so much from day one, he has convinced the players and the people who work here to give their best. And the results have been seen.”
With the likes of summer signing Antoine Griezmann putting in slightly underwhelming performances and Martinez’s young age, it is easy to see why Catalan giants Barça would be interested.
Whether the La Liga champions follow up their interest with a firm bid remains to be seen but it is clear Martinez is enjoying his football at Inter.
