Barcelona are tipped to pursue a new defender, midfielder and forward as they look to rejuvenate the squad.

Many of Barcelona's top stars - including Gerard Piqué, Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez - are over 30 years old and the club will undoubtedly need to bring through some younger talent in the near future.

According to Catalan daily SPORT, club officials are well aware of this. Despite sitting top of the league, they see weaknesses in every area of the squad, so they are ready to pursue at least three new signings in various positions.

Midfield is seen as their top priority. Both Ivan Rakitić and Arturo Vidal are expected to leave the club in the near future, so Barcelona want a 'complete' midfielder who could come in and replace them both.

Italian midfielder Stefano Sensi, who is expected to make his loan with Inter permanent in the summer, is said to be their top target. They see him as a similar player to club legend Xavi and there have been talks over a potential €50m move in the summer.

As has long been public knowledge, officials are also focused on recruiting a new forward. With Suárez getting older, the club want a striker who is no older than 25, so Inter's Lautaro Martínez and PSV Eindhoven's Donyell Malen are thought to be their top two options.

However, the club remain keen on striking a deal for Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar. Despite him being 27, Barcelona still want to bring Neymar back to Camp Nou next summer, and they are confident that they will be able to do so.

Finally, in defence, Barcelona are waiting to see how their squad evolves. They want to see whether Samuel Umtiti can make a full recovery from his injury struggles, while they also want to give 20-year-old Ronald Araújo the chance to develop, but they are still monitoring other options.

No specific names are given, but there are thought to be 'two or three' players under consideration, with the club open to a complete overhaul in defence.
