The last 16 draw for the 2019/20 Champions League has been made at UEFA HQ in Nyon, Switzerland in preparation for the knockout rounds getting underway in the New Year.

Reigning champions Liverpool, who secured progress from the group stage with a matchday six win over Red Bull Salzburg, have been drawn against 2014 and 2016 finalists Atletico Madrid in what promises to be a very difficult tie for both teams.

13-time European champions Real Madrid finished second in their group and so will have to face Premier League champions Manchester City and former adversary Pep Guardiola.

Barcelona and Napoli will be another excellent tie. Elsewhere, looking for their first Champions League trophy since 1996, Juventus begin the knockout stages by meeting French side Lyon.

Last season’s finalists, Tottenham Hotspur, are to face RB Leipzig, who are in the Champions League knockout stages for the first time. Chelsea will meet Bayern Munich in a repeat of the 2012 final - Bayern were the only team in the group stage with a 100% winning record.

Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel will face his former club Borussia Dortmund.

The eight group winners were seeded for the draw, each facing a group runner-up. Usual last 16 rules applied, with no team able to face a side that qualified from their group. Country protection is also still in operation at this stage of the competition.
