Atletico Madrid are willing to lower their asking price for star midfielder Saul Niguez to around £85m, according to reports, following recent reports that Manchester United would need to pay £128m to land the player.

The Spaniard has started all 15 La Liga games for Atletico this season, racking up the most minutes in the league of any outfield player at the club.

As a result of his fine performances in recent seasons, there has been plenty of interest in his services from around Europe for a while now.

One club that has shown a strong interest is United. The Red Devils have long been linked with the player and they are continuing to show an interest as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempts to strengthen his midfield.

It was reported recently that Los Rojiblancos are demanding a staggering £128m for the player. This is partially to do with the fact that Saul has around six-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal.

However, the Telegraph are now reporting that the Spanish side would, in fact, be willing to drop their asking price to around £85m, but only if the 25-year-old is keen to leave the club when the transfer window opens.

The report does note that he has a buy-out clause standing at a similar number to the initial report, but having played his entire senior career for Atletico up to this point, they will 'agree to let him go' for less if he seeks a transfer.

While this appears to be a major boost for the Red Devils and Solskjaer, there has been no mention of whether the player himself is indeed actively seeking a move elsewhere.

As the January transfer window fast approaches, United have been linked with a number of players.

And although Solskjaer hinted at 'two or three signings' in the window after the recent win over AZ Alkmaar, he has since claimed that they may not necessarily be doing business in January, with the club focusing on long-term targets that may not be available in the winter window.
