​Bayern Munich have confirmed that Kingsley Coman tore knee ligaments during Wednesday's 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, though the Bavarians are unsure how long his rehab will take to complete.


The winger broke the deadlock as Die Roten comfortably beat Spurs at the Allianz Arena, with the win meaning they became the first ever German club to win all six of their Champions League group stage fixtures. However, Coman's evening was brought to an untimely end after he was injured midway through the first half.

Chasing a ball down the left flank, he planted his foot in an awkward position, causing him to jolt upwards, before collapsing in a heap by the touchline, with fans and players quickly realising the ​seriousness of the situation.


He received immediate medical attention following the incident, and Bayern confirmed via their ​official website that Coman had also jarred his knee joint and pulled his biceps tendon. To aid his recovery, the 23-year-old's knee will be immobilised by a split. 


The France international has featured heavily during the 2019/20 campaign, but Die Roten are now set to be without one of their star performers for a significant portion of the campaign.


Coman has scored four times in 20 appearances for the German champions this season, showing composure to slide a neat goal past Paulo Gazzaniga for the hosts' first of the night.

That was his second goal of this year's ​Champions League pools, though the youngster hasn't netted in the ​Bundesliga since August, with Hans-Dieter Flick's men currently seventh in the table after the first 14 rounds of action.


They are seven points behind leaders Borussia Monchengladbach, despite their heavy spending in the summer. Headlining their list of summer arrivals was ​Barcelona loanee Philippe Coutinho, who hit a stylish goal in the second-half to add gloss to the result after Coman and Thomas Muller's goals.
