Jonjo Shelvey has revealed that he has no plans to depart Newcastle United anytime soon, despite his contract expiring in 2021.

After a spell of indifferent form at the beginning of the season, Shelvey has been back to his influential best of late.

The 27-year-old has scored in his last three games for the Magpies, including a stunning equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City in November.

His impressive form is likely to attract interest from other clubs, but Shelvey has claimed that he has no plans to depart Newcastle in the near future.

In an interview with the club's official website, the midfielder revealed that he received an offer from a team in London last January but turned it down due to family reasons.

"The kids love it up here [in the north east] – they’ve got their friends here," Shelvey said.

"It the end of the day, I’m playing for a new contract now. I want to stay here, and hopefully a contract will be sorted," he added.

Shelvey's performance have also attracted rave reviews on Twitter - not that the former Liverpool midfielder would know as he avoids social media.

"My friends send me stuff from Twitter of people who’ve been hammering you, then you have a good game and they’re literally buzzing off you," he revealed in an interview with UNITED.

"I think the problem with footballers nowadays (is that) they read too much into what’s been said about them.

"As a young lad, if you have a bad game – and I’m a bit older now, so you sort of learn your lesson and that – you don’t really want to be searching through Twitter and have people sending you nasty comments and things like that."

Shelvey will be hoping to continue his scoring streak when Newcastle travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Saturday.
