Newcastle United are planning on cutting ties with midfield duo Jack Colback and Henri Saivet in the next transfer window as they aim to strengthen their squad with signings in January.
Colback and Saivet weren't even named in Steve Bruce's 25-man Premier League squad, meaning they aren't able to be fielded this term for the Magpies.
However, the failed pair are still earning £40,000-a-week at St. James' Park and they're currently taking up a huge slice of Newcastle's potential transfer and wage budget.
According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are incredibly eager to get rid of the pair and are even considering terminating the duo's contracts. However, this could be an arduous and difficult process.
Colback is out of contract at the end of this campaign, while Saivet's contract expires in 2021.
Bruce has not openly asked for reinforcements in the coming transfer window, however it is reported that the Newcastle boss has made his voice heard to the board about a lack of squad depth in various positions.
One player who is potentially being lined up by the Magpies is Jarrod Bowen - the Hull attacker having netted 13 goals in 19 Championship games this season.
