Barcelona striker Luis Suárez has called his outrageous backheel strike in Saturday's 5-2 win over Mallorca was the best goal he has ever scored in his career.

Shortly before half time, Suárez ran on to a through ball from Frenkie de Jong, but found himself at quite a tight angle in the box. Without taking a touch, the striker opted to try an audacious backheel which bounced up in the air, over a defender's leg and past the goalkeeper into the bottom corner.

Speaking after the game (via Goal), Suárez confessed that he has never scored a goal quite like that one, adding that he managed to pull it off perfectly.

"It's the best goal of my career," he admitted. "I knew that it was a tight angle and the last option I had was to hit it with my heel. I was looking to bounce it because I had very little chance against the goalkeeper.

"[Manager Ernesto] Valverde tells me that sometimes I miss the easiest ones and score the most difficult ones."

Ernesto Valverde

Valverde echoed those feelings in his own post-match press conference (via Marca), insisting that he could not believe what he had seen.

"The situation took me by surprise," Valverde said. "I thought it was a pass to a teammate. It surprised me, but it was an extraordinary goal.

"I told him that there had been a few easier chances and this one, which was improbable, went in."

By scoring against Mallorca, Suárez ensured he has found the back of the net against all 28 teams which he has faced in La Liga since joining Barcelona back in 2014, having managed a stunning 139 goals in the division.

The win saw Valverde's side move back to the top of the league thanks to their superior goal difference over rivals Real Madrid, who they are set to meet in El Clásico on 18 December.
