Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that they could bring Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema back to the club in the near future.

A graduate of Lyon's academy, Benzema spent four years with the first team between 2005 and 2009, before sealing a big-money switch to Real. However, his contract is set to expire at the end of next season, prompting rumours about his future.

Lyon sporting director Juninho recently confessed that it was his 'dream' to bring Benzema back to the club, and now Aulas has confirmed to beIN SPORTS (via AS) that a move for the veteran Frenchman is certainly a possibility.

"Karim will be possible," he said. "We had discussed with Karim Djaziri [Benzema's former agent] last year. Meanwhile, there have been a number of changes at Real Madrid

"He has a talent that is immense. Besides, he is one of the best French players. That's why it is possible at the moment. But there is a possibility tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Juninho already said it and, in general, when Juninho says things, they are fulfilled."

Aulas has made no secret of his desire to sign Benzema, recently telling France 3 (via Foot Mercato) that the only reason the move fell through last year was because Lyon could not afford it.

"It would be beautiful, of course," Aulas confessed. "We talked about it last year because it was raised, but economically we couldn't do it. We discussed it with his representative and he is also part of the ideas we can have."

Unfortunately for Lyon, Real would likely be determined to hold on to the striker. He is in some of the best form of his career right now, racking up 14 goals and six assists in just 18 appearances so far this season.

His impact on the club this season has been enormous, especially given the struggles of backup forward Luka Jović, so Real will likely do all they can to convince Benzema to remain in Madrid for a little while longer.
