Manchester City travel to Burnley on Tuesday evening looking to avoid any further slip-ups in the Premier League title race.

The current champions drew 2-2 with Newcastle on Saturday and lost further ground on Liverpool and Leicester above them in the table as both their competitors won 2-1 - all games involving late drama.

The Citizens are now 11 points behind the Reds, but a victory against the Clarets in midweek would see them close in on their rivals before the Merseyside derby on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Burnley's brief winning streak was brought to an end by Crystal Palace at the weekend, a 2-0 defeat that left Sean Dyche's side tenth in the Premier League, but only four points off Tottenham in fifth.

Here is 90min's preview of Tuesday's crucial clash:

Team News

Burnley's main injury concerns are long-term absentee Johann Berg Gudmundsson and left-back Charlie Taylor, with the latter possibly being fit for Tuesday's game after being substituted early on against Crystal Palace.

Ashley Westwood will return from suspension, though he could miss out with a groin injury, but a return would likely see Jeff Hendrick move to the right-hand side and Robbie Brady dropping out.

Injuries are beginning to pile up for Pep Guardiola, with Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane, Aymeric Laporte and Oleksandr Zinchenko all sidelined.

Meanwhile, Ilkay Gundogan is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Newcastle, meaning Rodri is likely to return to the starting lineup. Bernardo Silva may also come in to to the team as Riyad Mahrez failed to impress against the Magpies.

Predicted Lineups

BurnleyPope; Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Pieters; Cork, Westwood, Hendrick, McNeil; Wood, Barnes
Manchester CityEderson; Walker, Stones, Fernandinho, Mendy; Rodri, D. Silva, De Bruyne; B. Silva, Sterling, Jesus

Head to Head Record

These two teams have met 101 times in the past, with City having won 47 of the clashes to Burnley's 29 victories.

James Tarkowski,Riyad Mahrez

The pair faced each other three times last season with the Citizens winning all three games, including two 5-0 victories at the Etihad. However, the most recent encounter was a much closer affair, Burnley narrowly losing 1-0 to an Aguero goal back in April of this year.

Recent Form

Guardiola's side have struggled in recent weeks as both performances and results having been sub-par. Tuesday's visitors have won only one of their last five outings in all competitions.

The champions are 11 points off defending their crown and know a victory is crucial ahead of successive league games against Manchester UnitedArsenal and Leicester.

City have scored in every away game this season both in Europe and domestically, but have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven matches.

The hosts are in questionable form as well ahead of this clash, having lost four of their last six games. Before their 2-0 home defeat at the weekend, Burnley had won their previous two games 3-0, but the Clarets have endured somewhat of a rollercoaster ride recently having either played remarkably well, or remarkably poorly.

Here is each side's last five results:

BurnleyManchester City
Burnley 0-2 Crystal Palace (30/11)Newcastle United 2-2 Manchester City (30/11)
Watford 0-3 Burnley (23/11)Manchester City 1-1 Shakhtar Donetsk (26/11)
Burnley 3-0 West Ham (9/11)Manchester City 2-1 Chelsea (23/11)
Sheffield United 3-0 Burnley (2/11)Liverpool 3-1 Manchester City (10/11)
Burnley 2-4 Chelsea (26/10)Atalanta 1-1 Manchester City (6/11)

While City are far from their sparkling best, they will head in to this game as clear favourites. However, Burnley may see this as an amazing opportunity to beat the champions, as Guardiola's side are riddled with injuries and suspensions.

James Tarkowski,Ashley Barnes

Without Aguero City looked relatively toothless at St. James' Park, and will face a similarly stubborn defensive outfit on Tuesday. Gabriel Jesus will need to fill the rather large shoes of the Argentine, while Raheem Sterling also needs to return to his early season form.

The Citizens will probably still have too much for their opponents though, and are likely to close the gap between themselves and those above.

Prediction: Burnley 1-3 Manchester City
