New Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has previously heaped praise on Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes, claiming that the player 'has it all.'

The former Manchester United and Chelsea boss was appointed as head coach of the north London side early on Wednesday, following the shock sacking of Mauricio Pochettino the night before.

The Portuguese coach had been out of management since he departed Manchester United in December 2018, but he has now put pen to paper on a deal that will run until 2023 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. With the January transfer window just around the corner, he may look towards the market to help bolster his squad.

One player that Spurs were heavily linked with in the summer was Sporting CP's Fernandes, with club president Frederico Varandas confirming earlier this season that he rejected a bid from Tottenham for his services. However, the Lilywhites have been tipped to make another approach in January.

This could please new head coach Mourinho, who has previously spoken very highly of the 25-year-old.

“I was surprised by the season of Bruno Fernandes," he told Eleven Sports in the summer, as relayed by the Mirror

Bruno Fernandes

“It was easy to predict quality, he is a very good player, but scored a very high number of goals for a midfield player. It shows that you need to have instinct and qualities to score and he has it all. He strikes the ball well, heads well, cool when he is one-on-one with the goalkeeper. He finds space in the penalty area. It’s all there.”

Fernandes was in scintillating form last season, having a direct hand in 50 goals in just 53 appearances for the club. He has continued to shine this season, contributing five goals and five assists in just ten Liga NOS matches.

It remains to be seen whether the former Chelsea manager will look to make a move for the player in January, but it appears clear that he is a fan of his.
