Lucas Torreira's agent has admitted that the Uruguayan midfielder is "no longer at ease" at Arsenal, casting further doubt over his long-term future at the club.
The 23-year-old was viewed as a marquee signing last summer after impressing for Uruguay at the 2018 World Cup, but he has struggled to consistently hold down a first team place in north London, often being overlooked in favour of a midfield partnership consisting of Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi.
He has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium since the summer, and recently sat down with manager Unai Emery to discuss his future after starting just three Premier League games this season.
Now, his agent Pablo Bentancur has admitted, not for the first time, that Torreira is not comfortable at the club after moving into a more advanced midfield role,
“I must say that the change of role has penalised him sharply,” Bentancur began.
"We have no problem with Arsenal but only words of thanks. Arsenal has allowed Lucas to compete in the Premier League, he has always shown great confidence.
"Clearly the interest for Torreira are all right, especially by Spanish clubs, but I have never sat down with any club to talk about his transfer. This is because of the great respect we have for the Gunners and general manager Raul Sanllehi."
Torreira was tipped to join AC Milan in the summer, and Bentancur continued by admitting the Serie A giants, among others, were interested in signing the Uruguayan - only for Arsenal to quickly close the door on a potential exit.
He added: "There was an interest [from AC Milan] as well as other clubs [this summer]. But we got together with the Gunners' general manager, Raul Sanllehi, and he immediately told us that for Arsenal, Torreira was not for sale - an adamant position.
"I also have to say that Milan did not present a real concrete offer.
"In Italy he grew up as a player and as a man. He brings to heart his experiences at Pescara and Sampdoria."
