Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund: Niko Kovac's Best Available Die Roten Lineup

Bayern Munich host Borussia Dortmund on Saturday afternoon, as the two sides meet in Der Klassiker.

Bayern are coming off the back of a nine goal thriller midweek, as they defeated second division Heidenheim in the DFB-Pokal quarter-final. In the Bundesliga they sit second to Saturday's visitors, just two points off the top.

Manager Niko Kovac will be without Arjen Robben and Alphonso Davies, who are both injured. Corentin Tolisso may also be unavailable, as he continues to recover from an injury of his own.

Here's a look at Kovac's best potential Bayern Munich side to face Borussia Dortmund.

1. Goalkeeper and Defenders

Manuel Neuer (GK) - Neuer will retain his starting spot in goal for Bayern, having made 24 league appearances this season. The German goalkeeper has kept nine clean sheets in the process, and will be eager to add to his tally for the visit of the old enemy.

Joshua Kimmich (RB) - Kimmich has been in excellent form for Bayern this season, as the young defender continues to establish himself at right-back. The 24-year-old has recorded 15 assists this campaign, more than anyone in Die Roten's squad.

Niklas Sule (CB) - Sule should make up one half of FCB's centre back partnership, as he has done 34 times this season. He will need to be at his very best on Saturday, as one of Germany's most lethal attacking teams visits the Allianz Arena.

Mats Hummels (CB) - Hummels will start in a German centre back duo against Dortmund, linking up with his usual defensive partner. It will be an interesting reunion for the 30-year-old, who faces up against the club he spent eight years with.

David Alaba (LB) - The Austrian full back seems certain to complete Bayern's defence, one which has been regularly used by Kovac. Alaba has made 34 appearances this season, scoring twice and registering five assists.

2. Midfielders

Javi Martinez (DM) - Martinez should make up one half of a two-man Spanish defensive midfield. At 30 years old, he has made 30 appearances throughout the season and has three goals to his name.

Thiago Alcantara (DM) - It looks like Thiago will sit alongside Martinez on Saturday, as the creative force in the midfled. His performances this season have been very good, as he hopes to continue his fine form in Der Klassiker.

Serge Gnabry (RW) - Able to play anywhere across Die Roten's attack, Gnabry could be deployed as a right winger against Dortmund. The German attacker has made 33 appearances this season, scoring ten goals and getting seven assists.

James Rodriguez (AM) - Rodriguez should play in the centre of the attack, as he could make his 26th appearance of the season. Though the Colombian has had his injury problems this season he has been good for Bayern, and will be eager to start on Saturday.

Kingsley Coman (LW) - Kovac looks certain to play Coman out wide with Robben injured and Ribery out of favour. The Frenchman has struggled for consistent game time, but his six goals this season have shown him at his best.

3. Forward

Robert Lewandowski (ST) - One of Europe's most lethal strikers will lead Bayern's line, as he faces his former side once again. Lewandowski's goalscoring tally has been as outstanding as usual this season, with 33 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions this campaign.
