Newport County vs Manchester City: Pep Guardiola's Best Available Citizens Lineup

Manchester City will resume their challenge on all fronts this Saturday when they take on League Two side Newport County at Rodney Parade in the FA Cup fifth round.


Pep Guardiola's team selection will be interesting for this fixture with the state of the home side's pitch to contend with. 


With the poor playing surface making players susceptible to injury, Guardiola may chose to rest key players - giving some fringe players a chance.


Newport won't go down without a fight, and having already knocked out former Premier League champions Leicester City, the Amber Army will be attempting to pull off one of the biggest FA Cup upsets in recent memory by beating another Premier League winner.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Ederson (GK) - Guardiola has stuck with Ederson in the FA Cup so far this season whereas Arijanet Muric has been limited to EFL Cup appearances only.


Danilo (RB) - Struggled with ankle injuries this season as Kyle Walker has made the position his own.


John Stones (CB) - The Englishman has conceded just once in his last six games in all competitions and may partner Otamendi here.


Nicolás Otamendi (CB) Otamendi could provide the experience alongside at the heart of City's defence.


Fabian Delph (LB) - Hasn't made the squad in recent fixtures so could be in the frame to feature in south Wales.

2. Midfielders

Ilkay Gündogan (DM) - The midfielder could be one of the more familiar first team this weekend.


Phil Foden (CM) - The English youngster will be eager to prove he is worthy of more Premier League game time.


David Silva (CM) - One is City's best players ever, Silva has six goals and four assists in 23 Premier League appearances so far this season.

3. Forwards

Riyad Mahrez (RW) - The £60m man has seen his first team action limited of late, but will likely start this one.


Gabriel Jesus (ST) - With Sergio Aguero in scintillating form, Jesus has found also found first team opportunities limited - but has scored two in two in the FA Cup this year.


Leroy Sane (LW) - The German missed the 6-0 win against Chelsea and will be desperate to get in on the action on Saturday.
