Manchester United's unbeaten run under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come to an end after Paris Saint-Germain ran out comfortable 2-0 winners in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash at Old Trafford.
The visitors were well worthy of their win, but the game was marred by a number of controversial decisions made by referee Daniele Orsato.
One decision that seemed to unite all those watching on though was his decision to send off the mercurial Paul Pogba late on.
The Frenchman was penalised for a wild lunge on Brazilian full-back Dani Alves with just a few minutes remaining, receiving a second yellow card - though in truth, he could easily have been given a straight red given the reckless nature of the tackle.
With Pogba continuously in the spotlight, it was inevitable that Twitter would explode following his dismissal. It's fair to say that the vast majority agreed that he could have no complaints with the decision.
Big fan of Pogba but that really wasn’t smartest move. 2-0 down and game lost. Stupid tackle + second yellow has made bad situation worse— Oliver Holt (@OllieHolt22) February 12, 2019
Definite second yellow, could of been a straight red. Silly boy @paulpogba— Roony Martin (@roonymartin84) February 12, 2019
He was always going to get a red card lunging in like that. So that’s pogba our next leg and I’m praying martial and Jessie ain’t out long— Aidan (@achisholme25) February 12, 2019
Pogba’s “challenge” looks worse with every repeat. Lucky it was only a yellow.— Raphael Honigstein (@honigstein) February 12, 2019
That Pogba foul is the exact same "try and step across to shield the ball" thing he did on Dele Alli. Think this one was much worse. Either way he needs to sort that out.— Michael Cox (@Zonal_Marking) February 12, 2019
100% that was a second yellow though. Stupid from Pogba. You could just see he was getting wound up.— Danny Panthaki (@DannyPanthaki) February 12, 2019
There were also suggestions that Pogba's actions had effectively ruled out any hope of United getting back into the tie at the Parc des Princes in two weeks time, while some users used this opportunity to reinforce their belief that the former Juventus star is perhaps a tad overrated..

Hopefully now a few people fall of that Pogba bandwagon, injure themselves and are never able to get back up on it— Ronan Vesey (@r_vesey) February 12, 2019
Pogba is overrated. Better off without him— CJ Golson (@CJGolson) February 12, 2019
Pogba = most overrated and over-hyped player in all of football.— Eklipse-CTID💙 (@dmedard) February 12, 2019
While few argued that Pogba deserved to be sent off, many believed that referee Orsato had endured a generally shocking evening - with his favourable treatment of Paris Saint-Germain goalscorer Presnel Kimpembe not going unnoticed..
Pogba got a red but kimpembe didn’t. Lol— Femi (@Dimejii_) February 12, 2019
Had it been any other ref— #RipCadet (@MancunianPogba) February 12, 2019
Pogba would have been available for the 2nd leg
Dani Alves sent off
Kimpembe should of been sent off for thay tackle on rash
Appalling. Red for Pogba but not for Kimpemba? Bottled it. PSG much better but ref useless.— Adam (@AdFletch83) February 12, 2019
How Kimbembe lasted the whole 90 mins is still beyond me with 4 bookable offenses while Pogba was sent off. Epic! #bbcfootball— Afis Balogun (@Elmagnifico2020) February 12, 2019
What's done is done now though, and the question on everybody's lips will now ask how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will recover from their first defeat under the Norwegian..
