Picking the Best Potential Newcastle Lineup to Face Liverpool in the Premier League on Boxing Day

Rafa Benitez returns to Anfield on Wednesday when his Newcastle United side face Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Newcastle currently find themselves 15th in the league table and will be keen to move on from a frustrating goalless draw with Fulham in their last match. Benitez has not won at Anfield since leaving Liverpool in 2010 and will certainly be looking for a reaction from his players.

Here's how the Magpies could line up against undefeated Liverpool on Boxing Day.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Martin Dubravka (GK) - Dubravka has been excellent since joining Newcastle in January, but will need to be at his best if his side are to get anything out of Wednesday's match.

DeAndre Yedlin (RB) - After returning to the substitutes bench against Fulham, expect Yedlin to be promoted back to the starting lineup against Liverpool.

Federico Fernandez (CB) - Fernandez was only fit enough for a place on the bench against Fulham, but will likely be restored to Newcastle's defence on Wednesday.

Jamaal Lascelles (CB) - Club captain Lascelles is highly thought of by many, and will need a strong performance to subdue the likes of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Fabian Schar (CB) - Schar was tipped for big things as a youngster, and has shown signs of living up to his potential with some impressive performances for Newcastle in recent weeks.

Matt Richie (LB) - The versatile Richie has been deployed as a left-back in recent weeks, and expect this trend to continue against Liverpool.

2. Midfielders

Mohamed Diame (CM) - Benitez does not have many options in central midfield, meaning Diame will keep his place in the heart of Newcastle's midfield.

Isaac Hayden (CM) - With Jonjo Shelvey injured and Ki Sung-yueng now on international duty, Benitez will be forced to make a change to his starting lineup, and Hayden will likely be the beneficiary of the situation.

3. Forwards

Ayoze Perez (LW) - The Spaniard may not be the most prolific forward, but he can always be relied upon to bring his impressive work rate to any match, and Newcastle will certainly need him to do so on Wednesday.

Kenedy (RW) - Newcastle might need a moment of brilliance to stun Liverpool, and Kenedy is one of the few players in Benitez's squad who is capable of doing so. He might not see a lot of the ball, but he will need to be creative when he does.

Salomon Rondon (ST) - Rondon has managed four goals and two assists in the league since joining the club in the summer, and will need to bring his physicality and determination as he faces the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren.
