4 Key Battles That Could Decide Manchester United's Clash With Fulham This Weekend

Manchester United play host to bottom of the table Fulham on Saturday afternoon. Both teams are in desperate need of a win, as United are without a league victory since 3rd November, and Fulham prop up the table having won just twice all season.

While United go into the game as favourites, a home victory is far from a guarantee. United have afforded visiting teams a lot of chances this season, and don't look anywhere near as water tight as they have done in previous seasons. If Fulham are clinical then they could get something out of Saturday's match.

With that being said, here are four key battles that could decide the game on Saturday.

4. Chris Smalling vs. Aleksandar Mitrovic

Chris Smalling tends to perform better when he's matched up against a physical striker - and there are few strikers in the Premier League more physical than Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Serb has seven Premier League goals this season, and will be looking to add to his tally on Saturday. If Smalling loses concentration for even a second, Mitrovic could capitalise and make United's afternoon very difficult.

3. Diogo Dalot vs. Ryan Sessegnon

19-year-old Diogo Dalot has found himself in the first team in the last couple games amid a defensive injury crisis at United.

The Portuguese full back showed glimpses of his quality in his debut against Young Boys, and could be set for an extended run in the team. 18-year-old Ryan Sessegnon has started to find his feet after a slow start to top flight football. This could be an intriguing clash between two of the league's hottest young prospects.

2. Anthony Martial vs. Cyrus Christie

Anthony Martial has been one of the very few United players to play well this season, leading the club's scoring charts with seven goals.

He's come up against Fulham's Cyrus Christie in the past, as United played Derby in the FA Cup. Martial gave Christie a torrid time that evening, and a repeat performance could spell bad news for Fulham.

1. Paul Pogba vs. Jean Michael Seri

The battle of the string pullers. Paul Pogba is usually the man to make United tick, and the same could be said for Jean Micheal Seri and Fulham.

Both players will be key to their teams attacking output, and whoever is afforded more time and space could have a big impact on the game. If Pogba doesn't fall out with Jose Mourinho between now and Saturday that is.
