Atletico confirmed last month that Costa was undergoing treatment on what was described as a 'bruised foot'. He later played in La Liga outings against Barcelona and Girona, although he was forced to miss the Champions League clash with Monaco in between.
According to a statement from the club, 'everything has gone according to plan'.
Costa has yet to really rediscover his best form since sealing a €60m return to Madrid last year after two seasons with Chelsea in the Premier League.
The Spanish international scored on his Atletico return against Getafe in January, a game in which he was also sent off. That was followed by two further goals in the six weeks that followed, with Costa only recently netting his first La Liga goal of the 2018/19 season in the 1-1 against Barcelona last month.
When fit and available, he has started for Diego Simeone's team this season.
Atletico remain in the hunt for their first La Liga title since 2013/14 when Costa played a crucial role in helping Los Rojiblancos break a 10-year duopoly enjoyed by Real Madrid and Barcelona.
