Picking the Best Potential Barcelona Lineup to Face Real Betis on Sunday

Barcelona return to league action on Sunday, as they welcome Real Betis to the Camp Nou.

The Blaugrana sit top of La Liga after 11 games, yet are just three points clear of rivals Espanyol, who surprisingly sit in second. They return to league action after their 1-1 draw with Inter in the Champions League.

Barça go into Sunday’s game without Philippe Coutinho, who picked up a knock at Inter, while Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele are also doubts for Sunday.

Here’s a look at Ernesto Valverde's best potential lineup for the visit of Real Betis.

1. Goalkeeper and Defenders

Marc-Andre ter Stegen (GK) – Barça’s established first-choice keeper, ter Stegen has become one of the world's top stoppers and will retain his place on Sunday.

Jordi Alba (LB) – Alba is one of Barcelona’s most influential players in attack, despite playing at left-back. The Spaniard has a remarkable seven assists this season, more than any of his team-mates. The Euro 2012 winner was recently recalled to the Spain national team by Luis Enrique.

Clement Lenglet (CB) – Lenglet has adapted to life at the Camp Nou well since his summer transfer from Sevilla and looks to be a part of the club's future for years to come.

Gerard Pique (CB) – Pique has played16 times this season, but there are question marks over the 31-year-old's form, with Barcelona in the market for a long term successor.

Sergi Roberto (RB) – Another academy graduate in Barça’s defence, Roberto has made 14 appearances this season, getting four assists in the process.

2. Midfielders

Arthur (CM) – Signed in the summer from Brazilian side Gremio, Arthur has slotted into Barcelona’s midfield flawlessly. The Brazilian plays with flair and power, and has featured 13 times for the Blaugrana since his move.

Sergio Busquets (CM) – Busquets has acted as the team’s beating heart for a decade. This season he has played in all but one game, putting in consistent performances in central midfield.

Ivan Rakitic (CM) – Rakitic is one of the first names on Valverde's team sheet and the Swiss-born Croatian will hope to add to his season tally of three goals and three assists on Sunday.

3. Forwards

Malcom (LW) – With Coutinho injured, Malcom could get his first start of the season. Barça’s summer signing from Bordeaux scored his first goal for the club as he netted the equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Inter.

Luis Suarez (FW) – Suarez has been on fire this season, with nine goals and six assists to his name. A fantastic October also saw him named La Liga Player of the Month, as he continues his outstanding performances up front for Barça in Messi's absence.

Rafinha (RW) – Whether Lionel Messi plays on Sunday is still unknown, but if he doesn’t then Rafinha will get his chance again. The Brazilian has only made seven appearances this season, but is a safe alternative to Messi should he be unavailable on Sunday.
