Bogey Men: 9 Players Who Have Scored the Most Goals Against West Ham in the Premier League

Over 1,000 goals have been scored against West Ham since the Premier League's inception in 1992.

The Hammers have been in the top flight for the majority of that time and, like many teams, they have encountered a number of players who always seem to get the better of them.

Here, we look at nine 'bogey men' who have relished the opportunity to face the Hammers over the years...

9. Paul Scholes - 8 Goals

In a playing career lasting two decades, Paul Scholes won it all with Manchester United. He also had a sharp eye goal for goal, notching over 100 Premier League goals over the course of his career.

He had a particular liking for West Ham, scoring eight times in 21 appearances against the Hammers - including an absolute pearler at the Boleyn Ground back in 2009.

8. Kevin Davies - 8 Goals

Former Bolton striker Kevin Davies also took a liking to scoring against the Hammers - netting eight times against them during his career.

His two goals against them in December 2006 not only helped the Trotters seal a convincing 4-0 win at the Reebok Stadium, it also cost West Ham manager Alan Pardew his job - though that would ultimately benefit the Hammers as they avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth.

7. Dwight Yorke - 9 Goals

Former Aston Villa and Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke was another striker who relished coming up against the Hammers.

The Trinidad and Tobago hitman scored an impressive nine times against West Ham, most notably putting in a superb performance during the 1999/2000 season. Then playing for United, Yorke scored twice and set one up as the Red Devils cruised to a 4-2 win over Harry Redknapp's side at the Boleyn Ground.

6. Romelu Lukaku - 9 Goals

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku's love affair with scoring against West Ham actually dates back to his Everton days, when the powerful Belgian forward couldn't help but find the back of the net.

He netted in nine consecutive games for the Toffees against West Ham - only scoring one goal at a time, but more often than not, contributing to a winning cause. He doesn't remember them all mind you - with Lukaku's first strike against the Hammers coming when he was simultaneously knocked unconscious back in 2013. Ouchie.

5. Andy Cole - 10 Goals

The theme of former Manchester United stars enjoying themselves against West Ham continues as we reach the first of two players to score 10 goals - striker Andy Cole.

'Cole the Goal' scored against the East Londoners for Newcastle, Manchester United, Blackburn and Manchester City - with the above celebration coming after he had majestically curled the ball over a stranded Roy Carroll in the Hammers goal.

4. Alan Shearer - 10 Goals

Alan Shearer scored 260 Premier League goals during his career - a record that still stands, and probably will for quite a while yet.

10 of those goals came against West Ham, with the former Blackburn striker taking a particular liking to the Hammers over the course of his career. He would often emerge on the winning side when he scored - but will perhaps rue his inability to score at the Boleyn Ground back in 1997 as Newcastle's Premier League title challenge petered out.

3. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink - 11 Goals

Goals, goals, goals - that's what Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scored in abundance whenever he came up against West Ham.

The former Leeds and Chelsea hitman usually lit up proceedings when he caught a glimpse of the Hammers goal - scoring some absolute pearlers over the years. His best? Probably his curling effort for the Blues at Stamford Bridge back in 2002 to earn Chelsea a share of the spoils.

2. Michael Owen - 13 Goals

17 Premier League Games vs West Ham

One of the most predatory and instinctive finishers of his generation, former Liverpool and Newcastle striker Michael Owen sure knew how to find the back of the net. Particularly against West Ham.

Owen scored 13 times against the Hammers for both Liverpool and Newcastle - with a host of injury problems seemingly put behind him whenever he faced them. Owen scored the first, and only 'perfect' hat-trick of his career when the Magpies won 4-2 at the Boleyn Ground in 2005.

1. Wayne Rooney - 14 Goals

20 Premier League Games vs West Ham

And finally, the most prolific goalscorer against West Ham in Premier League history - former Everton and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

England's most successful goalscorer rarely failed to disappoint against the Hammers, and scored some absolute blinders against them - including two from the half-way line. The first saw a majestic long range effort loop over a despairing Adrian in the West Ham goal, before Rooney replicated the magic last season - firing a fizzing effort past a stranded Joe Hart after the latter's dismal clearance.
