REVEALED: What Proportion of Every Premier League Squad in 2018/19 Is 'English'
It was often said that England would never perform well at a World Cup while the Premier League was dominated by foreign imports.
That clearly wasn't the case this summer, but home grown players still remain the minority, with only 33% of the 565 players named in Premier League squads this season eligible to represent the national team. That means two thirds of players are not.
Having crunched the numbers, here's a look at what percentage of each club's squad in 2018/19 is 'English':
20. Arsenal - 15%
Total Players: 26
English Players: 4
Ainsley Maitland-Niles looked as though he would be the most active of precious few Englishmen in the Arsenal squad this season, but the 20-year-old suffered a leg fracture in the opening game and will be sidelined until October.
19. Huddersfield Town - 19%
Total Players: 26
English Players: 5
Huddersfield have invested heavily in largely foreign talent since their promotion to the Premier League in 2017 and so far it has worked in keeping the Terriers competitive. But Alex Pritchard remains one of their most expensive ever signings.
18. Watford - 23%
Total Players: 30
English Players: 7
Former England goalkeeper Ben Foster returned to Watford this summer for a second spell with the club, 11 long years after playing for the Hornets on loan. Elsewhere in the squad, captain Troy Deeney flirted with the prospect of playing for Northern Ireland, but opted against playing for the Green Army.
17. Brighton & Hove Albion - 24%
Total Players: 25
English Players: 6
Brighton will be looking to German playmaker Pascal Gross and Iranian signing Alirez Jahanbakhsh for impact this season, but experienced English pair Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murrary are equally important in the Seagulls' hopes of survival.
16. Manchester City - 24%
Total Players: 29
English Players: 7
Reigning Premier League champions Manchester had four players with England over the summer - John Stones, Kyle Walker, Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph - while fans are keen to see how local starlet Phil Foden develops.
15. Chelsea - 25%
Total Players: 28
English Players: 7
The bulk of Chelsea's English players appear to just make up the numbers at Stamford Bridge, with none, including Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater, likely to be regular starters. Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be hoping he can be the exception to that trend.
14. Fulham - 25%
Total Players: 28
English Players: 7
Teenage sensation Ryan Sessegnon and twin brother Steven are two of the seven English players listed in Fulham's squad. The former was a star in the Championship last season, with his form even leading some to suggest he should have gone to the World Cup.
13. Manchester United - 26%
Total Players: 35
English Players: 9
In Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard, Manchester United have a pair English players who have the potential to be at Old Trafford for many years and retain a truly home grown and local core, the type of which the club has been famed for decades.
12. West Ham United - 30%
Total Players: 27
English Players: 8
Jack Wilshere took on a new challenge this season when he chose to walk away from Arsenal to join West Ham, the club he first supported as a boy. Alongside captain Mark Noble in midfield, the Hammers could hardly wish for a more passionate heart.
11. Leicester City - 30%
Total Players: 30
English Players: 9
Leicester managed to keep hold of England World Cup hero Harry Maguire over the summer. Elsewhere, exciting talent James Maddison joined the Foxes, while home grown left-back Ben Chilwell looks as though he will be a regular starter this season.
10. Tottenham Hotspur - 31%
Total Players: 29
English Players: 9
Tottenham have long prided themselves on supplying numerous players for the England national team. That was no different at this year's Word Cup, with Harry Kane winning the Golden Boot and Kieran Trippier emerging as a breakout international star.
9. Newcastle United - 33%
Total Players: 27
English Players: 9
Newcastle currently lack a local hero in the mould of Alan Shearer, but club captain Jamaal Lascelles can perhaps be considered an honourary Geordie after how he has performed since joining the club. It was vital the Magpies kept him over summer and they did.
8. Liverpool - 34%
Total Players: 29
English Players: 10
Just over one third of the current Liverpool first team squad is English. Jordan Henderson and James Milner may not possess the natural technical ability and athleticism of the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, but are two of the hardest working players in the league.
7. Wolverhampton Wanderers - 35%
Total Players: 23
English Players: 8
Considering the noise surrounding Wolves over the last 12 months and the fact that a many as five Portuguese players started their opening Premier League fixture against Everton, it might come as a surprise that they have the 7th most 'English' squad this season.
6. Crystal Palace - 35%
Total Players: 26
English Players: 9

Total Players: 35
English Players: 13

4. Burnley - 48%
Total Players: 27
English Players: 13
Just under half of the Burnley squad this season is eligible for the England national team. Joe Hart will be hoping a run in the side helps him rediscover his best form to get back into the Three Lions setup, buoyed by the examples of Tom Heaton and Nick Pope earning call ups.
3. Cardiff City - 52%
Total Players: 29
English Players: 15
Somewhat ironically, Cardiff are one of the most 'English' clubs this season and equally have just a single Welsh player named in the first team squad - Jazz Richards. Philippines international Neil Etheridge has given the Premier League its latest new nationality.
2. Southampton - 55%
Total Players: 31
English Players: 17
Southampton's many home grown talents of recent years have started to grow up, but many of them remain in the first team squad without having made the crucial breakthrough. That has inflated their number of English players. Danny Ings and other signings also add to the tally.
1. Bournemouth - 64%
Total Players: 25
English Players: 16
Now into their fourth season of top flight football, Bournemouth have still resisted the temptation to pump money into the transfer market on numerous expensive foreign imports. Instead, the Cherries have bought sensibly, while also staying loyal to their promotion winners.
