Youngest to Oldest: The Average Age of Every Squad in the Premier League This Season

Age is a big deal when it comes to top level football. Too young and teams may not have the experience or knowhow to succeed, but too old and they may not be fast enough or fit enough.

Ranked from youngest to oldest, here's a look at the average age of every Premier League squad this season...

20. Wolverhampton Wanderers - 24.8 years

Oldest Player: Joao Moutinho (31)

Youngest Player: Morgan Gibbs-White (18)

With summer signing Joao Moutinho the old man of the team at 31 years of age and 14 players aged 23 or younger, Wolves are both incredibly talented and extremely youthful.

19. Manchester City - 25.6 years

What is frightening about Manchester City is that they are already the best team in the Premier League, yet are remarkably the second youngest and so could feasibly dominate for years.

18. Huddersfield Town - 25.6 years

Huddersfield are in their second season of Premier League football with the experience of surviving relegation under their belt, but equally with plenty of youth on their side for the future.

After a sensational promotion winning campaign last season, teenage rising starlet Ryan Sessegnon will be the focus of much of the attention on Fulham over the course of the season.

Ever since returning to the Premier League, Southampton have had many exciting home grown youngsters to look to. Despite the squad's overall young age, that is no longer the case.

14. Liverpool - 26 years

With only four players 30 or older in their 30-man first-team squad, Liverpool fans will be hoping that the relative youth of Naby Keita (23) and others will mean a bright future at Anfield.

Tottenham possess a good spread of ages, with Harry Kane (25), Dele Alli (22) and Eric Dier (24) all on the younger side of the average age. Only five are actually older than 30, though.

After an unhappy summer transfer window, Newcastle fans are relying on the managerial expertise and experience of Rafa Benitez to make this season a success like last season's top half finish.

More than 20 years separates the youngest and oldest players in the current first-team squad at Chelsea. It is an age range of 21 compared to just 10 at some other Premier League clubs.

Watford's transfer deadline day capture of Domingos Quina makes the former West Ham and Chelsea talent the youngest player in the Hornets squad and one of three teenagers in total.

Arsenal have plenty of experience at the back this season, with Petr Cech (36), Stephan Lichtsteiner (34), Nacho Monreal (32), Lauren Koscielny (32) and Sokratis (30) all 30 or older.

Manchester United's first-team squad could feasibly get younger over the course of the season if Jose Mourinho sees fit to permanently promote the likes of Tahith Chong (18) and others.

6. Brighton & Hove Albion - 27.2 years

Youngest Player: Viktor Gyokeres (20)

Brighton fans will be hoping their team can use its collective experience to extend the club's stay in the Premier League into a third season after impressively beating the drop in 2017/18.

5. Bournemouth - 27.2 years

Youngest Player: Aaron Ramsdale (20)

Bournemouth have the Premier League's longest serving manager in Eddie Howe and also one of the oldest squads, featuring a real spread out mix of old timers and new talents.

4. Crystal Palace - 27.5 years

Oldest Player: Julian Speroni (39)

Youngest Player: Aaron Wan-Bissaka (20)

Julian Speroni extended his Crystal Palace contract yet again over the summer and is a reason why the squad's average age is high. He is the oldest player by as many as seven years.

3. West Ham United - 27.8 years

Oldest Player: Pablo Zabaleta (33)

Youngest Player: Declan Rice (19)

Over a third of West Ham's 26-man squad have reached their 30th birthday to give the Hammers a vintage feel this season. £22m summer signing Issa Diop is one of the youngest.

2. Cardiff City - 27.9 years

As the second oldest squad in the division, newly promoted Cardiff certainly have minutes under their belt, but they lack experience at this level with only a handful of players with a Premier League past.

1. Burnley - 28.8 years

Youngest Player: Aiden O'Neill (20)

The average age of Burnley's squad is almost a year older than the next oldest in the Premier League, with the Clarets possessing just two first team players aged 24 or under.
