8 Goalkeepers Chelsea Could Consider Signing if Thibaut Courtois Joins Real Madrid This Summer

Chelsea could lose one of their most prized assets this summer, with Thibaut Courtois reported as being on the brink of joining Champions League holders Real Madrid.

The keeper, whose kids live in Spain, is a main target for Los Blancos this summer and has been on their radar for some time. As such, here are eight stoppers the Blues could pursue if he really does leave them during the transfer window.

8. Keylor Navas - Real Madrid

Well, why not? If Madrid do sign Courtois, that would mean Keylor Navas is available; so why not go for him?

Despite Real's insistence on trying to replace him, the Costa Rican is a damn good keeper and can be credited with a lot of their success. He won't be happy having to play second fiddle to an incoming goalie and could be fine with going the other way.

7. Timo Horn - FC Koln

Timo Horn is probably the least likely of the eight keepers on this list to leave his club. The German signed a new contract with FC Koln even after their relegation from the Bundesliga last season.

He has been a loyal servant to the club since the age of nine and isn't looking to leave. Things do change rather quickly in this world of football, though, and Horn would be worth looking into if Chelsea are relieved of their No.1 stopper this summer.

6. Jasper Cillessen - Barcelona

29-year-old keeper Jasper Cillessen could be available for €30m this summer, according to reports coming from Spain. The Dutchman operates as Marc-Andre ter Stegen's understudy at Barcelona but could be allowed to move on ahead of next season.

Chelsea have already been linked with a move for the player as they're understood to have included him on a shortlist of potential Courtois replacements for the summer.

5. Kevin Trapp - Paris Saint-Germain

Kevin Trapp would be a solid addition for any team. While he could be accused of being inconsistent, the German is still a decent shot-stopper and would likely do well at a club like Chelsea.

He hasn't really inspired confidence during his time at PSG, something which should make it easier if Chelsea were to show any interest.

4. Ralf Fahrmann - Schalke 04

In short, Ralf Fahrmann is a safe pair of hands. There's hardly a flaw in his game and he can just about do it all. The German is an excellent shot-stopper, can distribute well and is generally a great all-round option.

Should Courtois leave Chelsea this season, he's someone the Stamford Bridge side could consider.

3. Jan Oblak - Atletico Madrid

The Atletico Madrid stopper is certainly right up there with the best in the world, but his name is  surprisingly not one that's mentioned often. At only 25, the Slovenian has already become a world-class keeper, but it will take some convincing on a suitor's part, especially as he still has three years left to go on his current deal.

Oblak is however going to cost more than Alisson cost Liverpool - another world record for a goalkeeper. So it's admittedly hard to imagine the Blues spending that sum.

2. Samir Handanovic - Inter

The 34-year-old veteran has three years left to go on his deal at Inter. And given the number of time's he's pulled them out of the fire with sensational saves, they'd do well to play hardball if any other teams come knocking.

Handanovic is one of the very best at what he does, despite his ripe age and seven years ago, he equaled the record number of penalties saved in a single Serie A season by thwarting six.

1. Gianluigi Donnarumma - AC Milan

One of the hottest goalkeeper prospects in Europe, Italian stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma would be a great signing for Chelsea. For one, he's only 19 and will only improve, then there's also that he's quite the acrobat for someone of his size and frame.

There have been rumours over a swap between the keeper and Alvaro Morata, yet there isn't really anything to suggest things could be headed there.
