Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested that their new signings have given his former side great momentum in this transfer window.

New Gunners manager Unai Emery, who took over from the departing Arsene Wenger, has wasted no time in getting his business done as quickly as possible through the recruitment of Bernd Leno, Sokratis, and Stephan Lichtsteiner.

The Gunners made their fourth signing of the summer on Tuesday as they secured the services of Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira for £26m from Sampdoria.

Wright, who scored 185 times for the Gunners, was previously highly critical of former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger but now sees light at the end of the tunnel following the appointment of Emery and some encouraging signings.

He said on Twitter: “Great momentum in this window. Sokratis and Lichtsteiner’s age and experience balance off with one (maybe two) exciting young players. Great season & WC [World Cup] for Torreira and he could slot straight in but will need some time to settle. Patience is key.”

For many Arsenal fans, it will be a completely new start that may take some time to get used to after Arsene Wenger left the hot seat after 22 years in charge.

The Frenchman won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups during his stint in north London but left with the team in a poor state, finishing sixth in the 2017/18 season and missing out on Champions League qualification for the second consecutive season.
