Picking the Best Potential Atletico Madrid Lineup to Face Real Betis on Sunday

With Atletico Madrid preparing for their Europa League semi-final first leg with Arsenal with three games in seven days, it will come as no surprise to see a heavily rotated XI to that of which started during Los Rojiblancos' shock 3-0 defeat to Real Sociedad on Thursday evening.

However, with Real Betis as the opponents, and Quique Setien's side's sensational recent run of form, Diego Simeone will know his outfit are in for a tough test on Sunday evening.

So, ahead of what should be a thrilling encounter, let's take a look at the Argentine's best possible XI...

Goalkeeper

  • Oblak

Although Atletico Madrid conceded more than two goals for only the second time this season in midweek and Jan Oblak being a certainty for his side's clash with Arsenal on Thursday, the Slovenian is expected to feature from the outset on Sunday.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a superb campaign thus far but will be expecting a challenging 90 minutes this weekend when free-scoring Betis visit the Wanda Metropolitano.

Defence

  • Juanfran

  • Savic

  • J. Giménez

With it clear to see which contest takes priority over the coming week, Simeone could opt to offer the ever-present Diego Godin a well-deserved break from the starting XI on Sunday evening.

The 32-year-old has featured in 28 of Atleti's 33 league matches this year; however, without masses of depth defensively in his squad; it will be hard to afford others a breather alongside.

Midfield

  • Correa

  • Saúl

  • Koke

  • Vitolo

A mix and match midfield could see Vitolo present from the outset this weekend. The 28-year-old midfielder's run of starts was brought to an end against Real Sociedad as he was named amongst the substitutes, although was called upon early in the second half with little effect.

Meanwhile, Angel Correa only lasted 45 minutes in midweek, meaning the Argentine could feature in the XI again this weekend and still be sharp for the Europa League next week.

Forwards

  • Torres

  • Gameiro

With Deigo Costa still nursing a hamstring injury and Antoine Griezmann set to be rested, the responsibility for goals could fall on Fernando Torres and Kevin Gameiro this weekend.

The duo both starred in Atletico's last outing at the Wanda; during their 3-0 win over Levante, and Simeone will be hoping they can find that form again on Sunday.
