With transfer fees spiralling further out of control with every transfer window that passes, interest in a players perceived worth has risen to fruition more than ever before.

New statistical data released by the CIES this week has given fresh insight into the potential market value of some of the game's brightest stars, with the 10 most profitable players of the season chosen from Europe's top five leagues through the use of a unique statistical algorithm.

Here, using the data provided, we take a look at the players whose stock has risen the sharpest during the 2017/18 campaign so far.

10. Florian Thauvin - £34.1m Increase

Former Newcastle winger Florian Thauvin has been a revelation in Ligue 1 this season, with the Marseille playmaker stepping up to the plate with 16 goals in 28 appearances so far.

Thauvin, who endured a dismal season at St James' Park, rejoined the French side on a permanent basis for a mere £9.8m in the summer of 2016, beginning this season with an estimated worth of £38.9m.

After his series of impressive performances, Thauvin is now estimated to be worth £73m - a rise of £34.1m this season.

9. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic - £36.3m Increase

One of the most wanted men in European football right now is Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The 23-year old has had a standout campaign in Serie A this season, scoring nine times whilst putting in a number of eye catching performances.

The lanky Serbian began the season worth an estimated £26.3m, but now finds his market value pushing £62.5m, an increase of £36.3m in just six months.

8. Davinson Sanchez - £37.5m Increase

Spurs centre-back Davinson Sanchez is another young player having an impressive season at the highest level, with the Colombian firmly establishing himself at Wembley in the continued absence of the injured Toby Alderweireld.

The 21-year old summer recruit from Ajax is reported to now be worth an estimated £68.8m, a sharp rise of £37.5m from his September valuation.

7. Paulinho - £37.7m Increase

Plucked from the Chinese Super League wilderness by Catalan giants Barcelona, Brazilian midfielder Paulinho has found himself back in the limelight at the highest level of the game.

As a result, his pre-season valuation of a meagre £8.8m has skyrocketed somewhat, with a jump of £37.7m taking the 29-year old's reputed worth to a handsome £46.5m.

6. Joe Gomez - £42.9m Increase

Although not firmly established in the Liverpool first-team, it's been a breakthrough season at the highest level for young defender Joe Gomez.

A couple of impressive international performances against Germany and Brazil put his name on the map earlier in the campaign, with the 20-year old's worth shooting up from a paltry £7.9m to £50.8m.

A £42.9m rise in value for a defender sure to have aspirations on sealing a place in Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad is pretty steady progress.

5. Gabriel Jesus - £47.2m Increase

It's been an injury disrupted campaign for Manchester City starlet Gabriel Jesus, but that hasn't stopped the Brazilian from putting in a number of high quality performances this season.

Although his goal-scoring record hasn't been scintillating, the 20-year old has contributed so much more in a campaign where City have conquered all and sundry on the domestic front.

Jesus' performances have earned a steady rise in his market value, with the Brazilian potentially worth as much as £93.9m, an increase of £47.2m since September.

4. Kylian Mbappé - £48.6m Increase

This list wouldn't feel right unless it featured the most talked about wonderkid in world football,  Kylian Mbappé.

The young Frenchman, snapped up last summer by money bags Paris Saint-Germain, has enjoyed a superb first season in Paris, forming a deadly partnership up front with Edinson Cavani and Neymar.

With 17 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions so far this season, Mbappé's statistics indicate a rise in value of £48.6m, taking his overall worth to a monumental £167.1m.

3. Leroy Sané - £56m Increase

It's been a season of domination for Manchester City this season, with German whizz kid  Leroy Sané at the forefront of much of the Citizens success.

The 22-year old has terrified defences this season with his fast feet and blistering pace, leaving Sané with a reputation as one of the most fearsome wingers in the Premier League.

His all around improvement this season has seen a sharp rise in his projected worth, with the former Schalke 04 man potentially worth as much as £134m, an increase of £56m.

2. Ederson - £66.1m Increase

As good as Manchester City have been going forward, they owe much of their success this season to summer recruit Ederson.

The 24-year old goalkeeper has provided much needed stability to Pep Guardiola's team, bringing a calming, yet dominant influence to proceedings at the Etihad.

With the Carabao Cup safely deposited under his belt, and Premier League success destined to follow, Ederson has seen his market value significantly rise, with a £66.1m boost taking his overall worth to a reputed £87.5m.

1. Mohamed Salah - £66.4m Increase

It's little surprise to see Liverpool's standout performer Mohamed Salah topping this list, with the Egyptian having enjoyed a meteoric rise to stardom this season.

The former Chelsea and Fiorentina winger had performed well at Roma during the past two seasons, but this season has seen the 25-year old elevate his game to a whole new level.

32 goals in 39 games for the Reds and the prestigious award of African Footballer of the Year have seen Salah's worth soar by £66.4m to an eye watering £144.3m total.
