Sporting CP attacker Gelson Martins could be on his way to Liverpool as Philippe Coutinho's long term replacement, after a local report claimed that Liverpool have agreed contractual terms with the attacker.

Correio de Manha (via The Mirror) have reported that the Portuguese winger is be one of Jurgen Klopp's targets for this January transfer window and that the Anfield club have already agreed personal terms with the star.

However, 22-year-old Martins still has a £53m buyout clause in his current contract and it remains to be seen whether Sporting CP will budge from this asking price.

According to the report, Martins would be tempted to join the Reds, who are prepared to pay more than five times what he currently earns in Lisbon.

However, Liverpool may be forced to shell out more for Martins - who has five league goals so far this season - due to the fact that clubs are aware of how much money Liverpool have following to the departure of Coutinho.
