We always remember great goals yet sometimes fail to appreciate the piece of skill or the pass beforehand that made the goal possible, with many players priding themselves on their ability to provide chances for teammates and be the creative hub of the team.
This list is to acknowledge the top assist providers in Europe's top five leagues (England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain) so far this season, made up of the usual suspects along with some surprising names and new faces to become accustomed with.
Here's who made the top 12...
12. Ciro Immobile - SS Lazio
Not content with being one of Serie A's top scorers so far this season, Ciro Immobile has proven to be a well-rounded striker who can provide assists as well as goals.
Despite Lazio being off the pace in terms of claiming a first Scudetto since 2000, it is no fault of Immobile, who has notched seven assists alongside his 16 league goals in what has been a superb season for the Italian.
It's safe to say the 27-year-old is enjoying his football at the Stadio Olimpico, after nightmare spells at Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla and re-establish himself as one of Europe's most feared marksman.
11. Florian Thauvin - Marseille
Newcastle fans will remember Florian Thauvin after his uninspiring stint at St James' Park. Costing £15m in 2015, Thauvin moved back to France and Marseille on loan the following January 2016, staying there until making his move permanent for £9.8m last summer.
Since then, the wide midfielder hasn't looked back as he stars for the French side, providing seven assists as Marseille occupy 4th in Ligue 1.
His performances haven't gone unnoticed by national team manager Didier Deschamps, making his international debut this year and looks to be heading to Russia in the summer as part of the France squad.
10. Paul Pogba - Manchester United
Never one to shy away from the limelight, Paul Pogba has proven this season that he is capable of being a key member of Jose Mourinho's side.
Appearing to be weighed down by his £89m move last season, Pogba has stepped up this campaign, providing seven assists so far, already more than the entire of the previous season (four).
Having Nemanja Matic alongside the Frenchman has helped Pogba express himself this season and now looks the player he was at Juventus, as the 24-year-old hopes to carry his form through to the end of the season and the World Cup in the summer.
9. Riyad Mahrez - Leicester City
Few would've expected the Algerian international to remain at Leicester City at the start of this season, yet despite a slow start Riyad Mahrez is continuing to supply the level of performance that inspired the Foxes 2015/16 Premier League success.
Registering seven assists has done nothing more than prove the 26-year-old is far from a one-season wonder that people assumed, producing some eye-catching displays under new manager Claude Puel.
As we enter the January transfer window however, speculation will continue to mount surrounding the future of Mahrez, with many of Europe's elite desperate for a player with the creative influence that he possesses.
8. Antonio Candreva - Inter Milan
Able to play in a variety of positions including central midfield and right wing-back, Candreva is currently leading the Serie A assist table, as his eight assists have helped his side compete at the top of the table.
Despite his impressive form for Inter, the 30-year-old continues to be linked with a move away from the San Siro, potentially linking up with former national team manager Antonio Conte at Chelsea.
7. Kylian Mbappe - Paris Saint-Germain
Despite still being 19, Kylian Mbappe has already proven himself as one of the world's top talents, with this season at Paris Saint-Germain being no different.
As one part of arguably Europe's deadliest front three, Mbappe has contributed eight assists in Ligue 1 this season, being deployed on the right-hand side of the attacking trio.
Also boasting eight league goals, Mbappe has proven he is more than a finisher, he is someone who can be involved right through the play, whilst having the end product to either assist or cross at the pivotal moment.
Mbappe could see his stock rise further when he represents France at the World Cup next summer, the same summer his loan move becomes permanent at PSG for £168m.
6. David Silva - Manchester City
Now into his 8th season at the Etihad Stadium this season, it could be argued that David Silva is currently playing the best football he's ever played in a Manchester City shirt.
Deployed slightly deeper in midfield, forming a three alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho, Silva has thrived in his new position, providing eight assists in the Premier League, playing a key part in the City machine this season.
The first of three Man City players on this list, it is a testament to their dominance in the league, with the 31-year-old right at the heart of it, hoping to take his good form into the World Cup to help a strong Spain side this summer.
5. Pione Sisto - Celta Vigo
The only player from La Liga to make the list, and it may come as a surprise as to who that player is.
Operating outside of Spain's elite, Pione Sisto is enjoying his second season with Celta Vigo despite his club's mid-table position so far.
The Dane has recorded an impressive nine assists this campaign, using his pace and power to create crossing opportunities from either wing.
At 22, there will be plenty of clubs in Europe keeping an eye on the winger as he represents Denmark at this summer's World Cup.
4. Philipp Max - FC Augsburg
Despite playing at left-back, FC Augsburg's Philipp Max is the sole representative from the Bundesliga after a strong to his season.
The 24-year-old has registered nine assists this campaign as the Bavarian side sit 9th in the table.
Max has garnered a reputation with his consistent delivery from the left, whether it is in live play or from set-pieces, even seeing him linked with a potential move to the Premier League.
With a World Cup looming, Max has an outside chance of playing his way into Joachim Low's plans for the summer, especially if he continues to provide the number of assists like he has been doing.
3. Neymar - Paris Saint-Germain
The second player from Paris Saint-Germain on this list and Ligue 1's top assist provider so far this season, it's safe to say that Neymar is enjoying life in Paris, on the most part.
Playing a major part in one of Europe's most devastating front lines, Neymar has provided nine assists to go with his 11 goals in Ligue 1 since his world record £198m move in the summer.
With the second half of the season still to go, Neymar will want to continue his strong start for PSG, hoping to wrap up their Ligue 1 procession at the earliest opportunity, while the small matter of a Champions League last-16 tie against Real Madrid to prove himself as the star man in a star team.
2. Leroy Sane - Manchester City
The jet-healed German has kicked on after his a promising debut season in the Premier League to become a key part to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.
Already eclipsing his goals and assist tallies in the league from last season, Leroy Sane is the league's joint-top assist provider with nine assists so far and the 21-year-old is already maturing into a frightening winger.
Tall, pacey with an end product to match, Sane will continue to get even better for years to come, and could prove to be a key asset for the German national team at next summer's World Cup in Russia.
1. Kevin De Bruyne - Manchester City
Arguably the standout player of the Premier League this season, Kevin De Bruyne has moulded himself into a dynamic central midfielder who has been Manchester City's talisman and creative hub.
Yet another who has improved under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola, the Belgian has the joint-most assists in all of Europe's top five leagues with nine assists as the 26-year-old has been undeniably influential for runaway leaders Manchester City.
De Bruyne will look to continue his form into the second half of the season, as he and the rest of his teammates are still in the hunt for four trophies this season, before he joins up with Belgium to compete in a World Cup that his nation are considered one of the favourites.
