4 Things to Know About Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as Man Utd & Liverpool Ramp Up Interest in Lazio Star

As the January transfer window looms, club's across Europe will look to add to their squads in the hopes of rising up their respective tables, and it appears both Liverpool and Manchester United  are eager to add to their midfield ranks.

The pair, amongst a host of top European clubs, have been linked with Lazio's star midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Many have heaped praise on 22-year-old Milinkovic-Savic's ability which has peaked curiosity about who exactly the young prodigy is, so here are four things to know about the Lazio midfielder.

4. He Is a World and European Champion at Youth Level With Serbia

Milinkovic-Savic represented Serbia at the 2013 Under-19 European Championship , where he played the entire 90 minutes for four out his side's five games, as Serbia went onto win the  tournament for the third time in their history.

His most influential period for his country, however, came during the 2015 Under-20 World Cup, as his appearance in six of the seven games proved decisive in the Eagles triumph in the final as he was subsequently awarded the Bronze Ball.

3. He Has Dual Nationality

The 22-year-old was born in Lleida, Spain to Serbian parents, which by very definition would have allowed him to represent either country.

However, having played at the youth academy at Serbian side Vojvodina from ages 11-18, he rose through the ranks at the club and identified himself as a Serbian national, featuring for his national side at Under-19 to Under-21 level before making his senior debut in October 2017.

Fun fact: He has two last names as he was born in Spain and was given the last name from both his mother and father.

2. He Is Part of a New Midfield Generation as He Stands at 6ft 3in Tall

Milinkovic-Savic stands at a staggering 6ft 3in, and he is a member of a new breed of midfielders who can dominate in the air, whilst gliding across the pitch with grace and impeccable ball control.

The 22-year-old possesses brute strength to ensure he is not easily pushed off the ball, but he is more than just a work-horse as he has incredible vision and passing range, which would see him settle into the Premier League  with relative ease.

At such a young age, the Serbian has the potential for further growth which has led to comparisons with Manchester City 's Yaya Toure.

1. He's a Versatile Midfield Option

Arguably one of the most important traits in the modern game is to ensure you have an ability to play a number of roles across the field, and Milinkovic-Savic has it in abundance.

He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder who is more comfortable supporting the attack - three goals and one assist so far this season - but he can comfortably offer his support on the defensive side of midfield, or pinch hit on the wing.

His aggressive nature and confidence in possession leaves little room to doubt his ability to successfully fulfil any positional requirements his manager asks of him.
