Picking the Best Potential Atletico Madrid Lineup to Face Real Betis on Sunday

Atletico Madrid travel to Andalusia on Sunday afternoon for a tough away match against Real Betis.

Despite their recent elimination from the Champions League, all odds are in favour of Los Colchoneros, who are unbeaten in their last 19 away matches and have won the past 12 encounters against Real Betis in all competitions.

Atletico will aim at continuing their title race behind Barcelona and Valencia, although they will have to do their talisman Antoine Griezmann, who is out due to a minor hamstring injury.

However, the Frenchman's absence should not be a problem as Diego Simeone can dispose of another French player, Kevin Gameiro, and Argentine Angel Martin Correa to give Atletico a much-needed victory.

Real Betis have failed to win any of their last five matches and will try to turn things around in their favour.

Here is what Atletico's best potential lineup would look like.

  • Oblak

Jan Oblak has had a good start to the new season and has already kept four consecutive clean sheets away in La Liga this year.

The Slovenian did his best against Chelsea last Tuesday and only conceded one goal at Stamford Bridge.

At only 24 years of age, he has a bright future ahead of him.

  • J. Giménez

  • Savic
  • Godín
  • Filipe

One of the best potentially lethal defences of the league, each of these players is being courted by European clubs and they're proving to be effective when featured like this.

They are the reason why Atletico have not conceded a goal in their last four away league matches and improve match by match.

  • Thomas
  • Saúl

  • Gabi
  • Koke

Simeone has a very well structured midfield that is made of passionate, clever and skilled men.

Saul Niguez is undoubtedly one of the most promising defending midfielders in Europe and has proved to be essential for Atletico: he still hasn't missed a match since the beginning of the season.

The same can be said of captain Koke and Thomas Partey, who are both doing well this year, as well as Gabi, who has made over 400 La Liga appearances in his career.

  • Correa
  • Gameiro

Atletico have bagged seven goals in their last two matches in the La Liga and are always dangerous in the front ranks - even without Griezmann.

Kevin Gameiro, in particular, will have a chance to shine as his conational teammate is ruled out and could really make the difference.

Several Premier League clubs have been linked with his name and are promising him more game time than he has in Madrid, but the ace has repeatedly claimed that he wants to stay.

Both strikers will want to earn their place in their national teams ahead of the World Cup, which makes them even more motivated to do well.
