Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente finally got off the mark for his new club in their 3-0 win against Apoel Nicosia on Wednesday night, which sent social media into meltdown.

After 17 appearances for Spurs, the former Swansea man scored the opener in the 3-0 victory. Llorente has found a starting place hard to come by this season, with most of his appearances coming from the bench.

With Spurs already qualified as Group H winners, manager Mauricio Pochettino rested some of his key players and started the Spaniard up front. The bosses faith in the striker was repaid in the 20th minute, after a beautiful piece of play led to the forward slotting home past goalkeeper Nauzet Perez.

After the game, fans took to Twitter to share their views on Llorente's goal.

Despite the ironic comments, Llorente did in fact play well on the night, and linked up very well with Son Heung-min throughout the game. For Pochettino it will be reassuring to know that if something were to happen to main man Harry Kane, that he can call upon Llorente to do a job for the team.

The win capped off a great group stage for the North Londoners, as they finished top ahead of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. A tough test awaits Spurs in the next round, with many big teams like Bayern and Juventus possible opponents.

As for Spurs domestically, its been a torrid time of late, with wins hard to come by and criticism of key players. Stoke travel to Wembley on the weekend, with the North Londoners hoping for all three points.
