Liverpool outcast James Milner has registered the most assists in the Champions League group stages, beating the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool - Premier League

Milner, who has only made two starts in the competition this season, has registered five assists to show his versatility for Jurgen Klopp's side.

The 31-year-old has played a bit part for the club this season, being used mainly as a substitute to see games out in the dying minutes.

But after coming on to replace the injured Alberto Moreno against Spartak Moscow in midweek, Milner set up his teammates three times in a 7-0 rout.

The former Aston Villa man is two assists ahead of the chasing pack, with teammates Moreno and Roberto Firmino on three, along with Dries Mertens, Kevin De Bruyne, Neymar, Mbappe and Ricardo Quaresma.

Milner's ability to provide quality service for his teammates still hasn't caught the attention of Klopp, as the 31-year-old has only completed a full 90 minutes twice in the previous nine games.

The former Man City man will be hoping his performance in midweek is enough to force him into the starting XI ahead of Andy Robertson to face fierce rivals Everton at the weekend, with Moreno out injured.
