Picking the Best Potential Atletico Madrid Lineup to Play Chelsea on Tuesday Night

Atletico Madrid travel to England to face group leaders Chelsea in a last-ditch effort to try and secure a spot in the last 16 of the Champions League.

It is going to be an uphill battle as Atletico will have to beat Chelsea, a task in itself, but also hope that Qarabag can pull off something incredible and beat AS Roma away from home in Rome.

Here is how Diego Simeone could set out his side on Tuesday evening.

  • Oblak

The Slovenian faces no competition that can match his ability, and on countless occasions, has put in world class performances in net when it really matters.

  • Thomas
  • J. Giménez

  • Godín
  • Filipe

The defensive back line is set to be unchanged from the side that beat Real Sociedad at the weekend.

Juanfran is on the road to recovery, however, may not be risked in a must-win game for the visitors. As a result, Thomas Partey is set to hold his role with Filipe Luis on the right.

Diego Godin is a figurehead at the back for Madrid and will be most likely joined upon fellow national teammate as well as club, Jose Gimenez.

  • Koke
  • Saúl

  • Gabi
  • Ferreira-Carrasco

The trio of Spaniards, Koke, Saul and Gabi should all see their starting roles cemented and secured as they have become regulars for Simeone week in, week out.

But Yannick Carrasco could come into the side to add pace and strength on the wing in replacement of Correa as the Spanish side will really need to push hard in this game to come away with all three points, because anything less, will certainly mean an exit from the Champions League.

  • Gameiro
  • Griezmann

Antoine Griezmann has been performing at the top level for Atletico for a number of years now and he already has two Champions League goals to his name this campaign. But they mean nothing now, he has to score and/or make an impact for the visitors when it really is needed.

He is likely to be joined up front by Kevin Gameiro as they go on the hunt for the elusive victory at Stamford Bridge.
