Newcastle's forgotten man Jack Colback has been told in no uncertain terms by manager Rafael Benitez that he has no future at the club.

Stemming from The Chronicle, Benitez looks set to be without the impressive Spaniard Mikel Merino for their clash against Bournemouth on Saturday with a back injury.

This however does not mean the door is open for a return to first team action for Jack Colback, who has been frozen out at St James' Park, as Benitez assesses his midfield options for the game.

Pre-match, Benitez said: "Without Merino, we can play Mo Diame, Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden and Henri Saivet.

"We can also play Chancel Mbemba there. Jack knows the situation."

After failing to complete a move away from Newcastle in the summer, with Hull City and Wolverhampton Wanderers rumoured to have been interested, the former Sunderland midfielder has failed to make a single appearance in the Premier League this season.

Benitez was also blunt about the prospect of any future playing time for Colback while he currently trains with the reserves.

He continued, stating: "He is training with the U23's at the academy.

"He knows the situation and I only concentrate on the players I actually have."
